Replace stock speakers?

Hey guys I have a 2010 F150 FX4 with the sony tweaters, door speakers and 8inch sub(no NAV touch screen). Like any stock sound system its slightly dissapointing I can have it turned to max an still think it should be louder. After spending alot of money on my old trucks sound system I really just want to do something mild to my new truck to make it louder and the bass hit just a tad harder. So I talked to this guy at best buy about replacing my door speakers with some component speakers and a good amp to fine tune them with, but he insisted that they would change the sound quality or loudness or bass what so ever UNLESS I buy a deck for my truck to control everything with, but like I said earlier I dont have the NAV screen already and really dont wana buy one of those kits that rip up my dash or fork up the dough for the kit and a new deck. So will new door speakers and a amp not give me what I'm going for or is this guy full of ****??

You need some way of getting the signal to the amp. Either a line level converter, or a sound processor. I'm very happy with the Audiocontrol LC6i. I may add an EQ as well, just to have more control.

I was in the same boat as you. I do not have the Sony system only the single disc. I was going to go with just a speaker change but read alot about how it was the head unit that that was the limiting factor when it came to sound. I guess there is somehting built in that when you crank the volume the HU decreases bass so as not to blow speakers.

Long story short I got rid of the stock head unit and installed a DD hu Kenwood DDX616, it was just around 400. It was a huge inprovment even with the cheap stock speakers. Today I just installed 2 sets of Infinity Kappa 6x8 and the sound quality is amazing even with out them being amped! I can't imagine what they will be like amped.

I plan on installing a 8" Bazooka tube, dont need crazy bass and want the ability to remove if I need room in back.

My vote is to replace the HU or go with a LOC (line out converter) that gives you the ability to tweak the signal.

And LC6i. It's a Line Out Converter, otherwise known as an LOC.

Basically you run the speaker outputs from your stock HU to it first, and it takes that and converts it into something you can plug an amp into. This is the cheapest way of adding more power to your setup but keeping things mostly stock.

With my new truck, however, I'm going to be installing a signal processor instead. This one here is last year's model from Alpine.

The new model, the PXE-800, comes out in a month and is the one I'll be installing on my truck. Signal processors basically take the output coming from your stock head unit, scrub out all the cheap processing and flatten out the signal, then apply all the quality signal processing that makes aftermarket HU's sound so good. The point of this being that you get aftermarket-quality audio while keeping the stock look and Sync features, assuming your ride is equipped. There are many, many write ups on this process. Here's a few:

Good luck, whatever you decide to do.
