sub problem

Okay so i just built a box for my two new re sl12 d4 subs.
Box is a little too big for where i want it..
I have an alpine 450m amp

well i know for 100% that the wiring is correct have check double checked and triple checked.

My problem. Gain all the way down. Or half way up same thing.

I turn my radio up more than galf volume the amp shuts off
i am thinking a safety shutdown. But why??

Are my subs too big for my amp?

The 450m is a mono amp that is only 2 ohm stable. I am pretty sure with two dual voice coil subs you have them wired to 1 ohm and the amp is going into protect mode.

With 2 dual voice subs you have to wire at either 4 or 1 ohm. In your case you have to be 4 ohm. I am not sure if that amp will be able to adequately power those 12s at 4 ohm.

I would say get two 2 ohm subs or replace the amp with one that is 1 ohm stable.

The subs are dual 4ohm voice coils. Wired in parelle they are 2ohm.

I over sized the power and ground wire at a 4g. Running 14g speaker wire.

Talking to a friend he belives that it probably my line out converter and the amp is going into protection mode.

I messed the box up so i am subless right now. But before i fix the box i am going to check out all my wiring for the line out converter.

But must say these subs arnt as loud as my cheap one was but they are so much more crisp. Cant wait to hear them at more volume

Ohh. And i now see what your saying about the 1ohm. i have each sub parreled seperatly and then running into the amp. So it would be a 1ohm loud being seen unless i unplug one of the subs. Okay thanks for pointing that out

I am no woodworker but I see people using resin on the inside of boxes to make them air tight. I don't think they are using mat just the resin.
