Door Speakers

'07 SCab, FX4 5.4L. Looking to upgrade the front and rear door speakers. My question is I don't plan on putting in a sub and amp.....at least not right now, and I've seen all the various door speakers you guys have used but how much to they improve the sound quality over stock?? Is it worth it to replace just the door speakers and expect to get some good sound?? Or am I just wasting my time and should wait until when/if I get a sub and amp? Thanks!!

I installed Pioneer 6x8", 2-35W RMS, coaxial speakers in all four doors of my '07 Supercab and it improved the sound quality considerably. I was impressed with the bass response in these speakers with the factory head unit.

I purchased my speakers from Crutcfield.com and ordered the speaker baffles and wire harnesses to keep from splicing speaker wires.

a question like this is hard to answer because what one person may consider a vast improvment and what another person considers a vast improvment can differ greatly.

I first replaced all my door speakers with some pioneer speakers. I felt they sounded better than stock, but i did not feel they blew them out of the water. I will say where i felt the most improvment came from was putting a 4 channel amp on my door speakers. Instantly the speakers were much louder, more clear and didnt seem to distort as much at higher volumes. This was also aided by the built in HP filter on the amp.

I dont think you will see a night & day difference from only replacing the speakers. Personally ive always felt pioneer speakers had great sound for the price. You can always add an amp down the road to wake them up.

Go to Crutchfield.com and research to your heart's content. There are dozen's of articles on what you need to run, pricing, tech support, how to install and how to decide the level of performance you want to use.

You can also call their fantastic tech support and they can recommend a set-up that you can afford and enjoy.

I am pushing my 6x8's with a JL Audio J2 320.4 4 channel amp. After running speakers off the HU, and then running them off the amp, wow, huge difference in every aspect of sound. They are so crisp and clean, and they get loud, and when loud, they do not break up. Also a plus, if you get a good amp that has crossovers built in, you can use the crossovers to limit the amount of bass getting to the door speaker to keep sound clean also. Look in my garage and you will see the sound info I used. I also ran some Install Bay wire, which is all 4 sets of speaker wire with a blue remote wire all bundled together to make for a clean and easy install. I also used the pig tails that plug into the door speaker connector so I did not have to cut the stock speaker wire.
