Speaker question
Speaker question
ok so i upgraded my stock speakers to new new ones. my problem is when i open my drivers door the speaker will crackle and cut in and out. the connection to the speaker is tight. is there any other spots where the speaker cord could disconnect?the speaker also crackles under bass.
thanks
thanks
First things first, the crackle when you open your drivers door is a pinched wire being grounded. You need some slack on the wires in the doors and through the door jams, Remember everything moves in vehicles.
Second, if crackling under bass, you need a HPF filter. You have sub bass frequencies running through your door speakers. This crackling could also be a voice coil that is starting to rub also because of overpowering with a dirty signal (radio is clipping - overdriving the outputs on the radio/amps) or bottoming out from subbass.

HPF= High Pass Filter. It is used to keep lower frequencies from the speakers.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-pass_filter#Audio
Its very possible its doing that to more than one speaker. Just sitting in the drivers seat one sticks out more than the rest. Also, it could be from the grounded wire making it more noticeable.
it is all the speakers crackling under bass. so where can i get a cheap filter for the stock radio?

Do they still sell those "bass Blockers"? It was a resistor or something that you wired the one of the speaker terminals and then connect that to the speaker wire. I remember those from a long time ago. that would be the cheapest way i think if they still sell them.
Have you tried turning the BASS down on your head unit???
Is it the stock head unit or A/M? Some aftermarket radios will have an built in option to apply a HPF to the front & rear speakers.

Search "bass blockers." They're nothing more than a capacitor that you wire inline with the speaker. Filters out the lows and protects your high frequency drivers somewhat. What do you have the "BASS" control on you radio set to? If you have it turned up at all, that could be the source of your problem.
so would these bass blockers help if it only crackles on certain songs? also when i took the speaker out of the door i noticed that it sounded great on any song with the bass up. it only cracks when the speakers are in the door, and the speakers are not loose.
the bass is fine i have the stock head unit and have the bass half way up and itll crackle like hell on certain songs
I just re-read this. It reminded me of an issue i once had. Could the cone of the speaker be hitting the door panel. I had this happen with some Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1s in a rear deck. it did damage the cone after a while. (alum cone)
