Putting different sub in factory box

has anyone here put a shallow mount sub in the factory audiophile sub box? my sub sounds good but at high volumes it distorts...i was looking to get a pioneer shallow mount but wanted to hear from the guys that have done this with good results

I was going to do this but from what I've heard (away from forums) it's really not worth it. You'll still be pushing whatever sub you'd swap out with the stock amp. You could always buy a sub (place in stock box) and an aftermarket amp to pump beats it'd at least be worth a try and if it sounds crappy you can xfer the equipment to a better box. I got sick of debating what to do and just bought a fox box and 2 kicker 10s two nights ago.
