Bass Boost

This is probably a really dumb question, but as far as a "bass ****" goes, it turns your bass up and down obviously. But basically you just set your gain and all on your amp how you want it and then simply control your bass with the ****?

Thanks

PS-is this also called a "bass reconstructor"?

Bass boost is a feature on some amps, not something you want to use really. As far as setting the gain, turn the head unit up to the loudest you are going to listen to it at, rule of thumb is normally 100%, and then set the gain while it is at that level with the bass **** all the way up. Put the gain as high as it can go until it starts clipping or sounding distorted. Now turn it down a very little bit, just so its not clipping, and that is how to set the gain, because this way you can listen to the music at whatever volume you want without the bass going bad.

The bass **** just makes it easier to turn the bass up and down after you set the gain, so you dont have to mess with all the settings again.

"Bass Boost" gives a HUGE spike at 45Hz (often +18dB), that is all. It basically makes the second octave loud, what most bassheads want. This is far from the proper way to use a "bass ****". For example, I have a remote **** but it controls that gain on my subwoofer amplifier, so the bass still has a flat response according to my EQ settings but without the monster spike at 45Hz. So my subs will play 20Hz just as loud as 63Hz according to RTA, but far louder when my friends (bassheads) want to ride w/ me and crank the c(rap).

There are two types of remote *****. One is a bass boost **** and is practically worthless. The other is a remote gain, and that is the type you want. Most newer sub amps have a remote gain.

A bass reconstruction processor is basically a synthesizer that creates frequencies that are not in the original signal. It bases the creation on the signal that IS there but only serves to fill out the bottom end. It isn't exactly the ideal of fidelity but it can create a pretty neat effect provided that it isn't overused.

can you set the remote gain system to not reach the max gain of the amp so you don't blow your speaker?

If you set the gain on the amp with the **** at max, it will only turn the gain down from there. If you set the gain without the **** connected, that will accomplish the same thing. The **** lets you turn it down from the setting on the amp, not up.
