Little help on Sub amp please
Little help on Sub amp please
Hello all, just needing a little help from the audiophiles on this forum. A couple of my stock speakers in my 04 F150 (w/ factory sub) have stopped working so doing an inexpensive upgrade and replacing all the door speakers and the factory sub. The door speakers are easy, it the factory sub that I'm more concerned with and even more specifically the amp that powers it. I have a Rockford Fosgate P1S48 8" 300W Max 150 RMS Punch Subwoofer replacing the factory sub and I want to replace the factory sub amp. Do I want to look at Mono 1 channel amp because I am driving only one speaker or can the same be accomplished with 2 channel amp? I'm into a lot of things, but this is not one I specialize in, nor do I need to throw a lot of money at it because I am 40 yrs old. I just am taking this as a good opportunity to upgrade the stock system. Thanks for your help and advice!
sub amps run in mono and are 1 channel, but some do have multiple inputs for more than one speaker the same as a two channel amp would. I'm no audio guru but I say just get a mono sub amp (1 channel) and hook it up, youll be fine. If you ever plan on upgrading the sub in the future you can always get an amp with more wattage than you need (rms) so you have the headroom to move up. Just make sure you tune the amp so you don't over push the sub.
Oh and you can run multiple subs on 1 channel, so don't let that bother you.

A 2 channel amp will bridge to power a 4 ohm sub just fine. Since your sub is a 4 ohm SVC then that would be my suggestion. Look for a small 2 channel that does ~50x2 and it should bridge to about 150x1@ 4 ohm, exactly what you need.
Conversely, a mono amp will power at 1 or 2 ohms (generally) and will work just as well.
