Factory sub wiring to aftermarket head unit
Factory sub wiring to aftermarket head unit
Greetings,
I just purchased a 2007 King Ranch with factory sub. I am in the process of installing my aftermarket Nav stereo and have a question on the sub hookup. I did do a search and found lots of info but did not find the answer to my question.
I have the Metra 70-5521 wiring harness with sub connector.

When originally connected it up the sub did not work. I have the 2 blue/wht wires tied together and a resistor in line for the pop (although still getting a little with 1k res). If I disconnect one of the RCA's it does begin to work (noisy though).
Looking at the connections, the stock harness it appears to be wired different then the metra harness.
Here is a picture for reference.

Stock is as follows.
1. sub (+)
2. sub (-)
3. Shield
4. Enable
5. N/C
6. N/C
7. N/C
8. N/C
The metra is like this:
1. White RCA center
2. Red RCA center
3. N/C
4. Blue/WHT Enable
5. White RCA shield?
6. Red RCA shield?
7. N/C
8. N/C
Does any one have any insight on this? My enable is wired correct but the RCA's don't seem right?
Thanks,
JP

Just thought I would add that the head unit I am installing is a Pioneer D3.
I also get a strange sound when I open the door or shut off the vehicle. Sounds kind of like a fog horn going off through the speakers? I assume it's some sort of feed back coming from the subs?

Well I was able to figure it out by trial and error.
For anyone interested the correct wiring for the Metra sub connector should be as follows. I had to pull the pins and re-wire the connector for the RCA's. The white RCA is not used at all and can be completely removed.
1. Sub (+) center conductor of red RCA
2. Sub (-) Shield of red RCA
3. N/C
4. Enable (blue/white wire)
5. N/C
6. N/C
7. N/C
8. N/C
I also put a 5v voltage regulator inline with the enable circuit and everything works great. No popping, no static or weird noise's when opening doors etc.

Thanks
got the wiring harness and was wiring them up of course the stereo big plug was fine but looked at the sub connector and the factory chart was like what the heck is all the other wires for.I figured you only needed one sideof rca but glad you confirmed it where did you get voltage regulator at .
