Tweeter Placement?
Tweeter Placement?
I have a 2010 F150 Screw XLT with the 4 factory 6x9's in the doors and nothing else. The music sounds like it's being played in a vat of mud.
Anyway, I want to put some tweeters in for the high-end, but am not sure where to put them.
Any ideas or suggestions?
(P.S. I plan on replacing everything and adding 2 12" subs in the back, but am just working on placement and pricing right now)

I would go w/ 4-channel amp for all your main speakers I.E the ones in the doors. Do a monoblock amp for your subs. This is what I did in my 02 screw.Your tweeter location looks good-however you might want to put them inside the door panel for security reasons. I did this w/ my 02. I used to live in the city and plenty of pepole around there had "sticky" fingers!! just my .02!!Hope it helps!!
And yes you have "6X8"s in your doors-very common Ford size.

You are not going to get anywhere unless you do at least one of the following: new HU, new speakers, or deaden/seal up your door.
The muddy sound is the crappy speakers being driven by the crappy HU in a open enclosure (door panel). That sound also is your sub/mid bass sound. Adding a tweeter won't do squat. If you get a component set to replace your 6x8's, velcro your tweeter in various locations to find what you like. There are A pillar tweeter mounts available from the Sony based systems which make it look very stock.
I put mine right next to my mids in the lower door where the stock speakers are at. I didn't care with the speakers up high unless I could control them better with an active type setup which I don't have. They sounded best to me down below.

After doing some testing today, I can definitely say that the HU is the cause of the sound issue. Bypassing the HU, the stock speakers actually sound pretty good when it comes to the mids and highs, but fail miserably when it comes to the lows, though.
Looking in to possibly going with Alpine...speakers, HU and amps.
Although I'll probably go with RF Punch for the subs, though.

x2. Unless you have solid active DSP, put the tweeter as close to the mid as possible. This will help to reduce breakup and beaming from the low crossover point used in most of today's passive components speaker systems.
So, after contemplating it some more, and doing some more research, and also deciding I wanted to keep the truck as stock as possible, I decided to try to go with Component Convertible speakers.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find any that 1) were in my budget range and/or 2) would fit into the F150.
So, I banged my head against the desk a few times, did some more research, and decided on the Infinity Kappa 682.9cf coaxial speakers for the doors.
