Subs for a 2005 supercrew f150
Subs for a 2005 supercrew f150
Hello, I drive a 2005 4 door f 150 and I love it. But a friend of mine recently bought subwoofers for his car and now the bass in my car just doesn't cut it anymore. So I'm looking to put in subwoofers under my rear seats but unfortunatly I know absolutly nothing about car audio and what I need to make I happen. And also price is deffenatly a factor. I'm only looking to spend about 200 to 250 dollars idealy if I had to the absolute max I can spend is 300 so obviously I'm not looking for the best of the best but this is the kind of purchase I only wanna make once so I don't wanna buy something that barely makes a differnce in the sound. Any information you have would be helpful also if you find something that might work a link would be nice so I can get a good look at it. Thank you
If your max budget is $300 then you should hold off on buying anything now and keep saving. If you try to make that cover an entire system (or even just subs) you won't like the result. $300 is just enough to cover a decent head unit. If you want a lot of bass then check out stealth boxes on ebay that hold two 12" subs. They fit perfect under your backseat. Match those with a couple JL Audio shallow subs, like the 13TW5 and maybe a JL 600W RMS amp. Of course, with that comes a new head unit, power and speaker lines, and fuses (plus all the stuff that comes with door speaker upgrades if you're planning on doing that). It's all a little expensive, but people will hear you coming from a half mile away! Stay strong and save that money!
Yeah i had a feeling but I hoped that there was some way to do it on that budget. If I dod save ip to buy what you jut described how much would I need to save? And what if I bought say 1 10 Inch sub that only fit under half of the seat? Would that be enough bass because my friend has 2 10 inch kenwoos and I don't think I need any thing more than that. But if I did go the cheap route would I still need a new head unit and the speaker upgrades and all of that?
If you saved up for a high-end system, you would need around $2000. The subs that I mentioned before are around $400 each, so that's $800 just for the subs alone.
If you want to budget it with one 10" sub then you might be able to do that pretty cheap. It'll sound pretty good, but you won't be turning any heads. Check these items out:
Kenwood KFC-W2512 subs are really cheap on ebay (around $55), and have good reviews. One of those might fit inside your center console (if you have one), so you'd save money on the enclosure.
The Kenwood KAC-8105D amp (about $115 on ebay) would be the perfect match for that sub.
You'll need a head unit with sub preamp outputs. The Sony CDX-GT700HD is a good value at $135 from Crutchfield. You can get it cheaper, but Crutchfield will give you all the stuff you need to install it, including vehicle specific instructions, for free.
If you like the audio from the door speakers then leave those alone. You can always upgrade them later if you want.
All that totals up to $305, plus you'll need power/ground lines, a fuse holder, RCA cables, and speaker wire. I'm not sure what the amp comes with, but you should be able to get that stuff for about $50. And of course, a do-it-yourself install is FREE, plus it's great experience to have. Hope it helps. Good luck!

You could do a decent sub, box, and amp for under $500. Barely. (and that would take some careful shopping and a liberal application of your time). You'd run it with the factory head unit using a line level converter. Sound will be a little limited due to the dynamic range restrictions on your factory sound system but it will be better than nothing. Plus, it will set you up to add a better head unit, speakers, and main amp when your time and your budget allows.
See my sig for a decently affordable box/sub combo (about $225 total, shipped). Also keep an eye on Craigslist and here on the forum. Lots of people are habitual upgraders and you can often score a pretty good deal just by being patient and keeping any eye on the right sources.

Under 500...this is what you gota do (or at least what i did). I have 2 10" jlw3's with a 1000W alpine amp and a fox box. subs are $100/sub. amp $150. Box is $100. Jl is one of the best audio manufacturers out there. Alpine is pretty good. and the fox box will fit under your rear seat (as it did mine). The sound is great. Not too much, but a lot. It rattles everything in my car, and it shakes the windows on the buildings as a drive by. all my friends love my system. Good, clean sound. The trick you gota use is go to google shopping, type in the product, search, then organize from lowest price to highest. Thats where you find the cheap stuff (100$ subs). Just when youre doing that, make sure there is a good warranty just in case.

Where are you located? I have a quality dual 10" box for $50 but Im not shipping it.
Also, if you are tight on money then JL Audio is not the right stuff to look at. You can get better performance for far less cash.
