New Speaker Suggestions?

Hi I have a '99 supercab and i am looking for some good quality rear door speakers and don't wanna spend a ton of money on them. I currently have a Sony Bt5100 HU and pioneer 6x8 front door speakers, a 10" MTX X-Thunder Sub, One Kicker CVT12 (soon to be two) and a Sony 1100W amp. I was wondering if maybe i could fit 6x9's and how much work that would be... Any help is appreciated.

Good luck fitting 6x9's. They are a little too large, and you would need to do a lot of cutting and custom fabrication to get one to fit. If you want the best of sound, your best bet is to go with a 6.5" speaker with an adaptor plate. Round speakers are the most efficient construction in terms of sound reproduction. I'm about to run Alpine Type S components in the fronts (really basic) and Alpine Type S coax in the rears. They are very inexpensive yet sounds quite responsive from what I've heard so far. But yeah, scratch the 6x9 idea, that's going to be a headache if you don't know how to use fiberglass, or have the time and money for it.

And just out of curiosity, you have a 10" MTX and a 12" Kicker sub? How do you have those hooked up to your amp? Don't worry I'm not here to criticize, just curious how you have them hooked up.

So 6.5 components for best sound quality? I have both the subs hooked up to the amp. The amp has two "spots" two hook up to....

Hey I have the same truck as you and just replaced all 4 door speakers. I got 2 sets of Polk Audio DB series 5x7 coaxial from crutchfield.com $100 buy 1 set get 1 half off and came with free install harnesses and guide to take door panels off (don't know if that deals still going). Anyway I love these speakers the highs were very good (kinda suprised), the mids are pretty good (better than stock) wasn't completly pleased with lows but that's what my subs are for. It was really easy to install and I'm glad I got these speakers. I wish I had a amp with them but they are still awesome.

Yeah you can't expect great lows from door speakers. The cones are too small to move enough air.

Ya I didn't expect "brutal" lows when I bought them but everything else is nice.

In my opinion they are but most good sets will cost more than coaxials. It might be best to put the best sets up front though.

Basics-
Componet sets have a mid bass driver of different sizes and a seperate twetter and comes with a external cross-over. Usually gives you a all around better sound if you can set the Xovers right and you might want to use a amp to get even better sound.

Coaxial speakers are usually 2 or 3 way speakers with a mid bass driver and either 1 or 2 twetters attached in the middle. They are usually cheaper price wise but a good replacement for a stock system. I'm not saying they are bad by any means, because I have 4, but usually people recommend componets.

Anyone else wanna add to this feel free.

Ok. A few questions... I know what tweeters are, but what do they do? What is a crossover and what does it do? What are 2 and 3 way speakers?

Tweeters- they give out the high pitch sounds think of crickets, if these are loud your ears will know it.

Crossovers- they are wired to the tweeters (if I remember correctly). They allow you to set the frequencies or hertz since most speakers only handle certain frequencies, (search google it'll give you more technical examples).

2 ways have 1 tweeter mounted on the driver and 3 ways have 2 tweeters mounted on the driver.

You can always do some research on google and I would recommend it if you wanna find the right speakers.
