JL Audio

Like my previous thread, I want to get new speakers and subs and I don't want to mix and match subs and speakers. But, deciding if I should just save money and stick with Rockford and get Rockford Punch 10" subs and amps to make my speakers sound better. But, I hear how much JL Audio subs sound great, and curious what their speakers sound like.

I was looking at the JL Audio TR570-CXi's for my speakers and possibly the JL Audio 10W1v2-4 subs.

Jl is great. I enjoy their speakers and sound of the woofers. Forget the w1 and the tr are the entry level, nothing to jump around about. Stick with the rockfords unless you want to step up to the next level. 10w3 is the way to go. get components for speakers.

Turns out JL audio wont be fitting in my sub box, so I'm looking at the Rockford P3SD410 10"s or Pioneer 10" shallow subs.

The pioneer shallow does good. I started with two of the TS-SW2501S4

Start with those? $200/sub on Amazon, ha! What's wrong with the Rockford P3?

I am a huge fan of RF amps; and from what I've heard of their subs, they're good clean-sounding, hard-hitting as well. I've just never owned them because I got my JBL subs as a gift and am satisfied. I've never heard the shallow series subs from RF though.

The p3 is weak and not satisfying. The pioneer shallows are 10 steps past that. I started with pioneers then went to the jl w3 when i found a box that worked with em. Now I have been tryng different speakers and such, the bm, 10w6 ported, and so on. The pioneers can be had cheaper.http://www.dealercostcaraudio.com/pi...-sw2501s4.aspx

If the TS-SW2501S4 RMS is 300 watts and peak watts is 1200, why would you use a Mono 500W amp?

I ran two of them off that amp, even if you had one speaker, that amp is fine. Tune accordingly. You dont match amp to peak. And a bit above rms is good for headroom so the amp doesnt clip.

But if it's a 500w amp, that is 250w per sub, right? If so, then it'll be 50watts less than recommended?

Good amps put out more than they are rated for, and some speakers dont need all they are rated for due to efficiencies, the hu has alot to factor in with how much of your amp gets used. Considering the design and output of jl amps it doesnt take much to power woofers. Could you use any old 500 watt amp on the pioneer speakers, and be happy, no. with the 500/1 and the 2 pioneer 10, I had the gain on that amp about 1/2 way up and it would push the speakers to their limit. My hu has 5 volt pre outs and decent eq along with sla so the amp works very little. The 500/1 is actually 635 watts.

This is what I have decided on. Sorry JJDH but I've just been recommended Fosgate's more than the Pioneer's, and trying to keep it matched as much as possible.

Rockford Fosgate P3SD410
Alpine PDX1.600

And I decided to get an amp for the speakers which will be: Alpine PDX4.100.

My JL 500/1 amp pushes quite a bit more than 500 Watts @ 2ohms.

1 sub @ "340" watts, AudioBahn excursion series, the other sub is not powered. Subs specs are 1200Max, 600 RMS.
