Crappy radio....

I put a nice sound system in my truck and it seems to go dead when I try and crank the volume up. What is causing this?? It seemed to work fine for a few months.

I highly doubt it's the harnesss. Could be an electronic component malfunctioning, at least that's how my old rockford headunit was years ago and my Sony home theater reciever, lol. My brother has an 05 Sentra with the Rockford system in it. When he turns on the car, only the right speakers work and the subs are at half volume. It's not until he cranks the B-jezus out of his headunit that he gets the left channels working too. But when he turns the radio down, his left side goes away.

Take your mp3 player and hook it directly to the amp via rca>3mm adapter and bypass the headunit. Then crank the volume and see if it works.

You kinda need to tell us what dead means. Sounds crappy or everything shuts off. HU turns off or amps?

dead

Dead means it goes completely out. No power to it at all and I really have to watch the volume if I turn it up too loud it seems to make it cut out right away. I don't know squat about radio stuff and thought maybe I bought too strong of a stereo system that needs more speakers sub woofers it is a really old truck with door speakers. I was curious if having to slam the door so hard on my baby truck is making it short.

Yeah, bypass the headunit with the MP3 player like i suggested and see what it does.

Might be time for a new headunit.
