Sony Sound System sucks!

Can someone steer me in the right direction to upgrade this lousy system in my 2010 fx4 screw.. I dont know much about audio or the speaker sizes in my truck, but I do know I will be putting a 10" sub..

Get the bass off the door speakers. Will allow you to get louder and cleaner.

If you had the sony system, id start with a sub and maybe an amp for the door speakers. Maybe a external crossover/eq for some sound tweeking. Once you get the bass off door speakers, most sound ok. From there think about swapping door speakers and an amp for them if your still not happy.

If your going low power in the bass department, look for a 5 channel for space saving.

A general budget for full system replacement (I'm using my system as the inspiration). It pushes your $1000 limit a bit but will get you a system that will perform like you want along with being robust enough for years of trouble-free operation.

$180 - Door speakers, two pair @ $90 each
$150 - Head Unit w/descrete F/R/SW outs
$60 - Under seat box for a 10" sub
$400 - 5 channel amp
$125 - Misc power, speaker, and audio cabling (stuff that works but may not be "pretty")
$20 -Wiring harness adapter, Head unit
$25 - Wiring harness adapter, Door speakers (2 pair @ $12)
$50 - Misc supplies

That puts you at $1010 before purchase of the sub, which you can add at any time. Sky's the limit there but figure a minimum of $125-$175 for something decent.

thanx.. helpful, i am probably going for something a little better than "decent", for sure im going with a 10" sub, and it looks like door replacements, and a chunk of most of the change will go towards the amp.

What I listed was an exact duplicate of my system (the amp cost is approximate since I carried over an amp from a previous vehicle). It's far cry from just being "decent".

Sound, both in quality and quantity, doesn't take as much in the way of dollars as it does in sense.

Buy less expensive amps. You can always find those used for decent prices. Money should be spent on speakers and door prep.
