sub choice

I had ordered 2 10in infinity kappas to replace my references with. i have had my references for 4 years and love them. however as it turns out the kappas are on back order and they are not sure when if ever they will get more in. so as an alternative i was looking at alpine swr 1042d or clarion pxw1051 would either of those compare to or even be better then the kappa as far as clarity and volume. they will be in a sealed box pushed by a 2500 peak class d mono block amp.

What is the RMS rating of the amp (and at what ohm load)? What depth do you have to work with? What is your budget?

idr the rms of the amp. its wired for 4 ohm right now but it is 2 ohm stable. both the clarion and the alpine will fit in the box and they are the same price. i already paid for the kappa's but they are out of stock and the clarion and alpine are the only other 10's for the same price on the web site. i just checking to see if any one had any experience with either one, because i want something thats the same quality as the infinitys

If you found something you like, wait for them. if your subs are blown and you have to have something, CL/ebay something cheap.

i cant wait because they dont know when if ever they will be back in stock, so i could wait a month i could wait forever, and its not a matter of price. ive already paid for the kappas so i have that credit to put towards something else. the only other decent looking subs on that site that i saw were the clarions or the alpine type r. but ive never heard either of these in person to know how clean they are.

Both the Alpine and Clarion have significantly lower sensitivity than either the Kappas or Reference subs, so you probably aren't going to get the same volume from them.

That said, bot the Alpine and Clarion seem to have decent reviews. I would be concerned about the mounting depth on the Alpine, at almost 7" I haven't seen a prefab box they would fit in.

im not really sure how deep my box is, i know its not 7 inches though (i didnt realize the alpines were that deep) its a down fire probox out of a 97-00 ext cab f-150. i really like the references but the surround is starting to crack and the new reference series im afraid might be to deep... i guess ill just have to take one of the subs out and measure the box depth. thanks for the help though, and if yall have any other sub choice suggestions im open to hear them, i just want it to be clean bass more so then ear shattering.

R's are awsome I have two in my 2001 extended cab and the SQ is awsome bass is super tight but has a nice boom when you want it to, my thread is still on the first page here "type r build"

As has been said though they are deep subs and I needed to buy a seat raiser kit to raise the back bench 4" and even then the alpine recomended dimensions are pretty tight

my R's are powered by a Brutus 1600w mono block amp

I'm guessing it's similar to this one: http://bicostereo.com/index.php?act=...&productId=672

If so, you are going to be pretty limited on subs that have mounting depths under 5.25"
