Anyone try Subs in the rear doors?
I have a question... (please don't hit me, it's just wishful pondering)
has anyone tried, or even thought about mounting a shallow mount say 8" Sub in the rear doors with some slight mods to the speaker cut-out? our speakers are 6x8, so it I'm thinking just extending the oval's vertically... will I be able to find a small sub to fit the mounting depth back there?

problem I'm trying to solve... I'm looking to go compmonents in the front.. I have a 4 channel driving all 4 door speakers... my HU does not have a single "sub out", it just has internal setting that let you make the sub run off the rear channels... When I set the LPF throught the HU, it cuts the highs to the doors as well... Right now I have the filters set to "through" and have my frequencies cutt off at the amp... My amp has bass enhancement for the rear 2 channels...
I'm driving 2 JL Audio 10's with 750RMS/2 of course, they are tucked under the rear seats on a custom, upfiring box and do a great job at the Low end... I was thinking that I could stuff either 8" or 6" shallow mountable subs in the door, attemtp to optomize them to mid range bass frequencies to fill in a slight gap in my (percieved) sound stage... If I bridge the rear 2 chanels on my amp I'll be running the rear channels at 150 RMS 2 4Ohms, and my amp is 2 Ohm Stable, I may try to wire the subs to present 2Ohms to the amp and see if I can get more...
Is this a horrible idea? I'm sure someone has pondered this in the past... Most of the threads I've searched and read, suggested folks either turn the rears off, or leave them stock so as not to ruin the focus of the sound stage... wondering if unidirectional bass would suffice...
Just wondering, and possibly
a little...

I just read a little bit in this thread... the idea has been tossed around a bit... I may research the speakers that were mentioned in there...

I'd sell your infinity door speakers and buy a nice set of components for the front doors that can fill that gap on their own. No rear fill.
I can't find any info on a Alpine M300 4 channel, is it a MRP-F300 (50wx4)? If so, that you can bridge it for each side and have 150W on tap for each door

Yeah, that is was I was starting to conclude from my studies on here and other sites

Yes it is the MRP-F300, when I was posting my pictures I didn't have the model number in front of me... So you're suggesting, disconnect the rear door speakers, and get a much nicer component set for the front, bridge to 150 per door... hmm Don't know why I didn't think about that, I was going to bridge the back channels into two mono subs (prolly not gonna work) and keep the front two channels driving singles... (essentially a 3 channel set up) but I think I like your idea better, thay way I can get some MUCH better components than I was considering... and spend about the same

Doors: If I'm running 150w to each door, I'd likely feel better running some 12-14 guage speaker wire to the doors (and research has shown that to be quite the feat if I have the "special" plug in the door... I think I do), and also the sound stage may be a bit off axis...
Pods: may give up some foot room, likely have a better sound stage, can run bigger wire with less work...
Tough choices... maybe I'll take some feedback from some of you who have done either of those choices... I've read a bit, and saw lots of folks asking about running the kick panel pods, and I seem to see MORE folks modding the doors for some nice components.. Perhaps I shoudl use that as my answer?

Check out msall150's builds for some inspiration https://www.f150online.com/forums/sp...round-3-a.html . I think kick panels are asking to put a boot through expensive speakers.
Or was it an eclosure built in and encompasing the door...
While a great Idea... I'm unsure of tackling a task that large... but I see it as about the only way to REALLY get good results... others would be compromises either in price, or sound quality... Interesting though...
I'm not in a hurry, as my system sounds good... and as I always say (and have been told)
"The enemy of GOOD is.... BETTER"
