2001 Extended Cab Type R build
2001 Extended Cab Type R build
figured i'd post it up considering most people on here seem to go with shallow subs due to the very limited room under the back bench, I upgraded the stock speakers and an old Pioneer deck with:
4 - 5X7 Alpine Type S
2 - 10" Alpine Type R 1022D
Hifonics Brutus 1600W Mono Block
Pioneer AVH-P4000DVD
I also installed an LMI Welding 4" HI-RIDER SEAT KIT to raise the back bench 4 inches, to be honest the kit for how much it cost me (around $200 by the time it got to Vancouver through customs etc.) was not very impressive in terms of installation instructions, they seem to be a quality product but for $200 i expected a little better instructions but either way they are in now, and i'm fairly pleased

i'm 5"10 and theres still about 3" from my head hitting the roof in the back
I decided on Type R's early on which is why i needed to raise the seat, i built boxes to alpine's spec out of 3/4 MDF:

Everything installed now and reasonably tuned, all in all i'm very happy that i spent the extra time and money to get the system i wanted, sounds great so far and ive basically retained all the space i had to begin with, now just gotta fit a little tool box somewhere in there lol

Nice system, and great choice of woofers! I thought about a seat lift but I'm 6'1 and in the back seat of my 07 screw my head has MAYBE a couple of inches before impact, and I like being back there when my girlfriend is driving me home from a wild night of...You get the picture, lol. Again, nice system, and great choice of enclosure type! Sealed really is the SQ design.
You and me both
I have a 12" Type R that was in the back of a Navigator during a collision, the woofer has a punched hole in the cone. The frame is in tact, the suspension is undamaged, the spider is untouched, the voice coil is still in perfect alignment with no pole or magnet rubbing. The voice coils work fine, I tested the coils and they measured about 3.6ohms each on my meter. Alpine said they don't offer replacement cones, so rather than to destroy a perfectly good driver, I just resined the cone inside and out. Now I'm just waiting for the perfect opportunity to build a box, reverse-mount it, and hear her sing!

Drink another round or two...

Then...
You'll be horizontal in the back seat....
Problem solved!!

Make sure you have enough room up for the sub to clear. I had a type R 12 front fireing behind my seat and i got a little rubbing on the top portion. I didnt even have it pressed against it.
Those things like to be around 1 full cube to sing.
