Speaker Upgrades

Guys, I've got a 2005 F-150 King Ranch that I thought didn't come with the Audiophile system because there wasn't a sub under the backseat, but just found out that I do have the front component speakers with the tweeters in the doors. I took out the 6disc stereo for a pioneer nav system, and today found my front left speaker was blown.

I went and bought two new 6x8 pioneer 3way speakers to replace the front two, but after taking the door apart, found the tweeters. I went ahead and installed the new speakers and just left the old tweeters unplugged. So, I guess I should move those new pioneers to the rear doors and buy a set of components for the front?

If the factory tweeters mean my truck should of come with a sub, the truck was used when I bought it, do you think the previous owner took it out when he traded it in?

I installed the navigation system, and am just getting into the whole audio system world. I really don't want to add too much to it now, but what do you guys think i should be doing at this point?

Look at the back of the stock head unit you removed, if it's got three connectors + the antenna, it's a audiophile head.

Audiophile:

Non-audiophile:

It is an audiophile system, i found the factory sub harness in the back as well. I think what I want to do is add new 6x8 to the front and put my pioneer 6x8 in the back doors. Then, splice the factory tweeters into the front door 6x8s. Any thoughts about what 6x8s to get for the front?

Just get a set of components (replace the 6x8 and the tweeter) for the front door. Otherwise you'll need to cannibalize the stock speakers and cut off the crossovers. You can fit 5 1/4" or 6 1/2" round components (woofer and tweeter) with cheap adapter plates, or 6x8 components. A matched pair will sound better with their own crossover. Look for a high sensitivity (91+ dBs) since you're running off of the head unit.

CA&E has a review of the Pioneer TS-D720 : http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/St...E720Review.pdf

For a cheap set (can be had for about 130 bucks) I doubt you will find a set with a better mid. Tweet may be a bit harsh (an issue with the pio PRS set, dont know about these) but I bet they would be a good start.

OK guys, I just ordered my new system. I went with the fosgate T1652-s components in the front with the 6x8 fosgate power series speakers in the back. A 5 channel alpine pdx-5 amp to power the speakers and the 5th for the shallow mount 10" sub in the back. I am running a pioneer navigation system. Also ordered the 10" by 10" dynamat dampeners for behind the speakers, and the kicker 4 gauge 4 channel amp kit.

I will be installing it all this weekend into the truck. Any tips for the install as far as running the new speaker cables, amp power line, etc. I can't wait to hear this thing when I'm done.
