pmason718 - thanks for the link I've been on there and sonicelectronics all day trying to weigh out what i might want.

porkcereal - I've transferred our convo into the pvt. msg. to save everyone from the lengthy writting...lol..

It seems as though from everyone(crutchfield, Polk audio, kenwood) I've talked to agrees I'm responsible ruining my speakers by playing them to loud and having the sensitivity/gain up too high.
SO I guess my next question for the car audio Gurus....
Should i buy speakers that are rated well above my amps rating of 60w rms @4ohms, or should i purchase speakers rated below the rating as suggested by PorkCereal?

and yes, i have since turned the sensitivity/gain down!!! LOL

I would have to agree with PorkCereal on this one. 17-18 years ago when I built my first system I made that mistake and I could not keep speakers in it, I kept blowing them. I've since learned how to set the gains correctly and how to choose speakers correctly, based on amp output.

My current system has Kicker DS-680.2 components (45w RMS) in the front doors and kicker DS-680 coaxials (35w RMS) in the back doors. All are being driven by a Kenwood 8404 amp (50w RMS x 4) and so far so good. I also have a kicker CVR 10" wired up in 2 ohm (400w RMS for both coils) being driven by a kenwood 8104D (500w RMS @2 ohm)

At RMS or below in most cases. Not giving enough power to a speaker can be as bad as overpowering. It will cause you to want to crank gains.

From my experience with have the F300 (150x2 bridged) and my type r (110 rms) I think its better to go a little over and adjust your gains right. Then your not just working your amp over backwards for power. The r's sound great too like this. With enough power going to them they don't even distort untill nearly full volume. With my coaxials in the back off the head unit it provides plenty of rear fill. I'd just bridge the amp you have and run a set of comps up front. I love my setup as you can probably tell haha.

I'm not giving up on my 4ch. I want to use all 4 doors. I've pretty much picked out some speakers, but don't have access to a jigsaw or router, so i might try and use those plastic brackets that claim to be able to fit 6.5's???

And porkcereal i did put my polk audios on craigslist locally, i thought $30 for the 4 speakers sounded fair that way when people low ball me i have a little play.. LOL
I'm gonna put my stockers back in for now until i get the money together for my front comps, rear coax, and brackets.
hopefully i can get my big 3 done while waiting for my new speakers!!
