Need help assembling system

I have been a lurker for some time and have done a ton of reading, research and searches so sorry for the post but all the research has gotten me even more confused.

I want to put together a system of amps, speakers and a sub. I have a Alpine CDA-9883 and have the ipod, satellite radio, and kids headrest monitors al hook up but need to add the speakers. I've got an '01 Supercrew.

I want new front and rear door speakers and probably just one 10" sub. I don't need a stereo that people 3 cars away can hear. Just want good clear sound with a little bass. I can put everything behind the rear seat or under the rear seat but need to do one or the other.

Budget is about $800 - $1000 and I am very capable of installing myself.

What I need is a complete list of brand and model number for the sub, sub box, amp or amps and door speakers. I am figuring one amp for the sub and another for the door speakers. I want quality over quantity!

Like I said I have researched but got more confused the more I did. Looking for someone who has put together something similar and likes the results. I listen to mostly rock, contemporary, pop and talk radio and movies for the kids.

Thanks for any help. Cheers.

if your wanting to stick with alpine, i would go with the alpine Type-R 6.5" components in the front and the Type-R 5x7s in the rear. for the speakers the alpine mrp f300 amp is a great 4 channel. the shop i work at sells ProBox's that hold a one 10" and its ported and fits under the seat with no lift required. you could put a kicker CVR in it and put an alpine mrp-m500 to power the sub.
oh and the shop is in dfw area if you are local and want to pick one up

I'm all for everything you listed EXCEPT the slim Kicker. I'm personally not fond of that speaker. With slim subs, I have Rockfords which I hate more, but I love Pioneers because they are very inexpensive, built from strong materials, and are less thick than the Kicker and I believe require less air space for a ported enclosure. Only drawback about that is the thickness of the Pioneer spans almost to the entire edge of the woofer, so it can't be installed in a box that compensates a "lip" that all F150s have under the rear seats.

well the only reason i say that kicker, not that i like it, is because thats one of the only tens that will fit in the ProBox. i actually hate that sub to be honest

Q-logic makes a box that fits 2 8"s. Would that be a better option? Could I get a better quality using 2 higher quality 8"s?

Thanks for the help guys?

i talked to the guy at probox myself one day and he claims their 2 8" box loaded with their 8" subs with an old fosgate 500 watter on it hit in the 130's db. their test truck was an '01-'03 screw

That seems like a very farfetched claim. I have heard of a lot of weird things, I have even seen first hand three 12" Sonys beat 155dbs in a concrete and plexi sealed Geo Metro with about 9kwrms power. But two 8" subs hitting 130dbs in a 4 door fill sized pickup with just 500 watts? Tell that crazy probox seller that a crazy F150 forum member says he's crazy.

lolz at 155deebeeez with sony's running 9k watts - highly doubt it
and lolz at not believing 130's with 2 8" subs - very easily possible

The 155dbs was burped @ 37hz at a Sony soundoff here at Las Vegas at the Green Valley Ranch about 4 years ago. It was designed just to be loud, not even a street legal car with concrete in the doors, plexi in place of glass, and several batteries and amps in the hatch. Those subs lasted less than 20 seconds of total play before the were smoked. Think it's unlikely? How about in a Geo Metro? In case you didn't know, the loudest volumes are made in the smallest cars which is why the 18" Digital Designs subwoofer in some tiny *** car hit the same volume as the old Rockford VAN that had eight 15" subwoofers and about 3x the power.

And two 8's hitting 130dbs with just 500Wrms and in a supercrew? Not as easily as you think, at least not with those circumstances. You'd have to have woofers that move air like 12's (meaning incredibly high excursion WITHOUT sacrificing cone surface area for excursion), a ported enclosure fine tuned for the subs installed, almost ZERO chasis vibrations (because in case you didn't know, vibrations leak pressure reducing volume), and you'd need more than just 500 watts nominal power.

But please, if I am wrong, I would love to be enlightened.

i was just repeating what he said, he was saying it was 2 of their probox 8's in their ported UTS box in a screw

haha!! im skeptical too, 130 db's from 2 8", now i personally heard and saw the meter on 4 old school orion intense 15's with 4 orion hcca 225's back in the day hit 156 so im not quite sure i believe 2 8's hitting 130

My comment wasn't aimed at you, but at the person who said 130dbs out of two 8's is "very easily possible"...NOT in anything larger than a Smart Car with just 500Wrms.
