Sorry there hadn't been any replies to you yet. Unfortunately, I don't have pics available of mine, but I have Infinity components. Removed the factory speaker, traced it onto 1/2" mdf, cut out mounting hole for 6". Drilled holes in mdf for sheet metal screws to mount to door. Wired woofer and tweeter. Mounted tweeter behind grill area of the factory door panel. Mounted crossovers low inside door to keep out of window operations. That's my basic how-to. I plan on doing some sound deadening this spring, I'll try to take pics then. It may look a little ghetto, but works for me!
I have a pair of the Polk 6.5" components in my doors. My first pair (installed by someone else) I had everything behind the factory grill and the crossovers mounted on the kickpanel under the dash (couldn't see them). Last Christmas I installed a new pair of Polk 6.5" components. You can see pictures of the install in my gallery "Stereo Install". Not sure if you want to take that risk, but I cut out tweeter holes near the door handle. I installed the mid on a 1/2" mdf that covered the factory location. I also have sound deadening on the doors. I ran new wiring prior to installing the speakers. I mounted the crossovers on the back wall next to my amps on an mdf board. Let me know if you have any other questions. Hope this helps.

Well, I was scared to death to do that, so I somewhat cheated. I had gone to a junkyard to find a new door panel for the passenger side because some of my clips on the back had broken off from pulling the panel off and on too often (my first install wasn't all that great and I had to keep going back in and retighten the mounting screws). So I had a practice panel to work with. But to answer your question, I used one of those hole bits (have a real drill bit in the center but then a ring with jagged teeth that makes the hole). I used the size that was one size smaller than the tweeter mount. Then I used a dremel to file the plastic part thats behind the leather. Once I got it big enough for the tweeter mount to pop in, I was good to go. Using the smaller size hole cutter, kept me from having to worry about frayed edges on the leather. They just tuck in nicely behind the lip of the mount. Hope that helped!

My tweets were too big to fit up there...make sure you measure first.
And now that you mention it, I think I did run into a bit of that problem in the sails as well. I don't think they were quite big enough.
