Air space???
Air space???
Right now I have Kicker KX400.1 amp running two 10" Polk Momo subs (wired to a 2ohm load) in a box made by SuperCrewSounds. The setup sounds pretty good, but I just want a little more! I will keep the amp, but thinking about changing the subs. My box's airspace is a total of 1.0 or 1.2 and I was thinking of getting two Kicker CompVr subs (they have buy one get one free) and they require .8 per sub, so I would be short. My question is how bad would that shortage affect the performance. I know you usually want to keep within the specs, but I was just curious if it would work. And on a side note I was also looking at two JL Audio 10W1v2-4 (again wired to a 2ohm load) which would meet the air space requirements. Would the JL's be a better choice anyways even over the setup I already got? I listen to rock and rap. Sorry for the lengthy post, I just wanted to thorough.
Dont switch a pair of sealed 10s for another set of sealed 10s on the same power...it will net you nothing. If you are going to spend the money to upgrade, do something more drastic. Upgrade to 12s or something and get more powa! 400 watts is not going to get you loud unless you have some subs that are ridiculously efficient.
I don't believe I can fit 12's under the seat w/o doing the seat lift and I don't want to do that. I switched before in my old truck with the same amp. I had a pair of MTX Thunder 5000 (I believe) and switched them to Boston G1's and could tell a huge difference as far as the G1's handling certain bass notes that the MTX's couldn't do. I've even considered going back to the G1's, but I thought I would see what people thought about the JL's and CompVr's. The amp I have provides me with plenty of power (enough for me) and has been great to me. I've owned it since 03 and had it powering a Kicker S8L7, Kicker S10L7, and the three other brands that I've mentioned above.
What are you trying to accomplish? More sound or a different sound. If you want more, i think a ported box might do that. More boom, then your going to have to add more power, or a different sound, which a different sub might provide.
You could also try going with 1 12 and use the same amp. I went from 3 x 10's to 1 12 using the same amp and im pretty happy with the change. Listening to hip hop the 12's will give you a deeper bass.

If you have about a 1/1.2 of total air space and push two subs that need .8 each you are going to have real tight bass. It will also get a real bumpy type sound if turned up past a certain point. It will ruin the sound quality. For 1.2 of airspace I would go with shallow subs. Check out Memphis Audio, JL or if you want a bit cheaper but still good try MTX.
