I would't use the word "clean", but they have a well deserved reputation as a sub that has one of the best bang for the buck factors.
They can take up to 1k of clean power, and people have done really impressive numbers with them, 140+'s with single 12s in 1.5 to 2 cubes at 40ish Hz.

i have type r 1222d in a small sealed enclosure (under 1 cube) in the trunk of the marquis pushed with around 750+ rms and it sounds pretty good. i listen to metal mainly, but with really bass heavy music it sounds even better. the vehicle has alot to do with it. when i had it in the bug it pounded hardcore but it was a little too loud, so i put it in the marq and went with a single p2 10" in there. they are worth a definite look when you compare subs in their price range.

Ahh skimping on highschool related quips? Haha

OP - Don't seal this sub. Its a waste of the driver. And don't pay the 350 retail price for it - they can be had for around 150 BNIB at several online dealers.

There is no other way but sealed, its going into a titan and the box sits under a back seat. Currently he has 2 12" W3v2, he is looking for more boom yes. Was told 4 10" subs could do this with the correct amount of power.

Any other suggestions, we are limited to 7" of mounting depth. Box will be around 2.46 when all done.

I have 1 in a sealed box around .98cub (thats what specs call for sealed ~1) pushed by a 500d memphis amp downfireing in a standard cab. It sounds good and handles pretty well. My first box was just over 1cub and it sounded like crap. I can get it pretty loud without distortion now that ive taking my blown crossover off of it and it hits strong. Good sub for the money if you arent trying to win compitions and just want a good sound. But you are going to get different opinions from everyone, and everyone hears a little different and likes a different sound.

With a 7in mounting depth i think you cant use it. I believe these call for an 8in.

You're telling us that ~.05 difference in enclosure size made a Type Argh sound awesome?

Also - no one buys this sub for SQ. Its a cheap and gaurenteed way to get loud.

Please explain this corssover stuff as well.

You have the space to port a 10 or 12 inch driver. If you lack the fabrication skills to do so, then say that. But the only way he will get more output than 2 12" drivers sealed is to port a single 10 or 12 inch SPL oriented driver. Heck even 2 high output 8s would do the trick.
