Both. First things first though. What kind of budget are you working with?

If you are on a really tight budget, new speakers will make a HU sound better. A new HU will make the old speakers sound like old speakers.

I would opt for the speakers first; if possible i would by a decent HU and some pretty good speakers---$400 should get you a $180 HU and two pairs of $100 speakers---it will sound much better than what you have now, and it won't break your bank.

Don't buy 2 pairs get one good set for the front and down the road upgrade the rears. You should be able to swing some polk db571's for the doors and a nice kenwood/alpine/pioneer/eclipse/clarion/panasonic head unit. Then get a descent 4 channel amp to run a small sub and doors.

Im doing the same thing you are right now. I just ordered an alpine HU and i will be putting Alpine Rs in the doors, and finishing it off with a rockford P3 12" Shallow under the back seat. Also Alpine has this little amp that hooks up rite behind the HU to boost its output from 18W to 45W meaning no hassling with a big amp and wiring, and its only $100 bucks!

Speakers Amps and Subs Onlinecarstereo.com literally half of what crutchfield is That Rockford P3 is $209 at crutch and $119 at Onlinecarstereo! Same deal with speakers, and amps!

Those db571's 6.5 or 5x7? Why do people upgrade to 6.5s?

What is the most you want to spend on a head unit? and speakers? Do you want an amp or sub? if not now what about later?

Yeah but you get no authorized warranty so when your stuff breaks you are SOL.

Well if my calculations are correct if it breaks you can afford to buy another! If it breaks your not doing something right!

onlinecarstereo sells repairmaster warranties and they have fantastic coverage. Not that much considering how much you save most of the time. For example I just looked up a $550 head unit and for 5 years coverage was only $70.

I have the 5 year on mine and if it breaks they will repair it or cut me a check for what I paid for it. I already did the press to test on them for my GPS and they said I could ship it to kenwood authorized repair center and they would cover the charges or they would pay me the $450 I paid because they had no tech data to repair it at their repair center.
