Also, unless you plan to amplify some speakers I would just go with 1 sub. 2 will be incredibly overpowering if you are just running speakers off the head unit. (stock head unit will feed speakers maybe 4-8 watts of power). You could get a small 4 channel pretty cheap for your speakers.

As for which subwoofers to get, I think there is a lot of miss-information in this thread. What are your goals? I see you want to have louder bass, but nothing earth shaking. Do you care how clean it sounds? What kind of music do you primarily listen to?

Kicker subwoofers tend to be pretty sloppy by my standards unless you just play rap all the time (in which case it doesn't matter which sub you choose they will all sound somewhat similar). The JL W1 is a nice sounding driver but it lacks in output and authority down low. Most shallow mounts will also struggle in these categories due to limited throw and the lack of airspace available under the seat.

As for using a line out converter, you can definitly use one. I think using an external processor is a much better route...but of course that means more money to spend. You can PM me a budget with answers to my questions above and I can piece together something that I feel will meet your goals.
i think mine sound fine on rock music and in a ported box, if he did 1 12" comp or something in a sealed box across the whole back seat that would leave him plenty of airspace and plus with downfiring boxes they tend to drown out the distortion a little more than some of the other options

Well, I listen to metal, rock, alternative, some old school rap. That narrows things down.

I've thought of getting a double din head unit before, no touch screen, just something simple. I found a clarion that has matching dash colors and ipod controls (I know, I'm old). I suppose it would be able to make the doors keep up with the subs (???) or would they need to be amplified as well?

I feel like I'm starting to dive into this system stuff all over again. Oye. :o I need to start selling some stuff.

This amp will also take high level inputs, so you could run your factory speaker outs directly into this amp, turn on the low pass crossover, and off you go.

He builds the boxes as you buy them. I had mine 8 days after I closed the auction. I'm very happy

So where does the amp mount for the dual 12" box? I saw on the single 12" box there is a rack enclosed in the box for the amp to mount.

depending on the size of the amp you have enough room under the front passenger seat to mount it as well

Yeah there's some room under there. There is some sort of vent under the seat though.

i would try to avoid mounting electronics under front seats cuz i know the vents are there, cool air is not problem, just the heat. i mounted my dvd player underneath the pass seat but mounted it to the bottom of the seat itself where its not in the way of the air flow from vent. worked out pretty good.

An aftermarket HU might have a slightly stronger internal amp, but the difference will be minimal. Once you hear properly amplified speakers, you will never go back. if you can somehow spare that extra 150-200 bucks for a small 4 channel then you should absolutely do it.

Looking at your music choices I think you will really enjoy the Image Dynamics IDv3 10" or the IDQv2 10" subwoofers in a sealed enclosure under the seat.

I didn't like the Kicker CVR 12 in either a ported or sealed box, although the sealed one was more tolerable. Plus it wont fit under the back seat. The L5 was way worse though. And as for downfiring drowning out distortion...that makes absolutely no sense. You either have a distorted signal or you dont. The direction the driver aims wont affect that.
