Post Replace those Factory Speakers NOW!

For those of you who don't want to dump a lot of money into their stereo system because you just got done dumping $30K into a new truck, this post is for you.

Just got done installing a pair Kenwood eXcelon KFC-XR600 6-1/2" speakers in the front doors of my 2001 Supercrew. i like them because they are a low profile and they have a seperate woofer tweeter option. It was was a breeze. I read a prior post on this site regarding door panel removal. (very easy). I used 6x8 to 6-1/2" adapter plates from Cruthcfield $12.00.

Let me tell you...what a difference! Granted, the system is no ground shaking powerhouse, but its sure sounds better than stock. The speakers added a little bass, but more importantly they added more highs. The system now sounds much "cleaner" and less muddy.

I've purchased an Expy center console, Kenwood amp and 8" Boston Acoustics subwoofer to be mounted under the console to give the stock system a little more oumph. That comes latter this weekend.

Take my advise, rip out those factory speakers as fast as you can!

The tweeter is integral to the 6-1/2" speaker frame however the tweeter is not connected to the woofer like a coaxial. What I meant was there are seperate connections for the wires.

You won't find the adapter plates on their website or in their catalog. It's a relatively low priority item to waste ink on for them.. Just call them and tell them you want the adapter plates for Ford to mount a rounf speaker. They'll know what you are talking about. Yes..I put them in all four doors. No problem.

Did you have to cut the door metal to get the 6.5" speaker in. How thick is the adapter plate. How close is the clearance of the front of the speaker to the back of the door panel. From what you can tell, do you think this setup would work for any 6.5" speaker or are yours particular slim line.
