IMHO, I liked the stock (premium sound) speakers better than the Pioneer 6985s. This was a surprise to me, because I generally have liked Pioneer speakers in the past. The Pioneers had more midrange and treble, but actually had less bass. It wasn't until high volume levels that they started sounding decent. At lower levels you have to really turn up the bass. If I had it to do again, I would skip the coax/triax and go with a decent 6.5" component set. The 6x8s sound much better in the store than they do in the truck. Let your ears be the judge; if at all possible check out the speakers before you buy them.

Thanks for the reply. I thought maybe a amp but didn't know if stock speakers would work. And if they would not then maybe just the new speakers would do the trick. I guess i will just keep listoning to different speakers till I find what sounds good.

...Components are definitely the best solution...But if you don't want to cut the doors a good 3-way can make a huge difference.....I just installed the Polk Dx7's (With an amp)...And they sound awesome !.....There are other posts on this board that suggest you might not even need an amp to power these speakers....I compared them side by side with the Pioneer 6865's (6X8 3 -way) and there was no comparison in the quality----You should be able to get a pair for about $110....I changed all four speakers and this new system sounds REally GREAT....GOOD LUCK !
