Infinity Kappa 6 1/2' in doors?
Has anyone tried the Infinity Kappa separates in their doors? I'm ready for the next evolution of my sound system, and am thinking of going with separates. The grill just kills too much of the highs with coax's, and the imaging is terrible with the tweeters down by my ankles.
I'm currently running 5.25 Kenwood xr500s in the doors, Pioneer 6895s in the back, and 2 MTX6000 10' in a thunderform. The fronts are driven by a Crunch vr4004 (4x100), and the woofers by a Crunch vr4000 in mono 1x800.
One of the problems I'm having is finding separates that will handle 100w RMS without paying $400-$500. Crutchfield has the Kappa 60.2c for $199, which is a great deal. However, I listen to my music at loud to very loud volumes, and don't like the subs trying to play the midbass. I currently have the crossover set at 150hz to save the smaller speakers, but this leaves a 'hollow' sound because the subs add their own tonal qualities when playing that high of frequencies. My thinking is that the 6.5' midbass drivers will fill the gap...perhaps set the crossover at 100hz or even 80hz? Will the Kappas do the job? If not, can anyone recommend a separates system under $300 that can?

I have the lower priced Infinity Reference component speakers in mine, and am quite happy. Installation was pretty easy although if the crossover was any bigger it might have made a bulge in the door panel.
I think my crossover is around 100 Hz or so with an 8" sub. I don't listen at very high volumes often and am not pushing the same power as you, so take it FWIW.
Components make a big improvement, but I must admit the imaging is less than stellar on my truck with the tweeters high and forward in the door. Some cars I've heard with similar or slightly better systems just seem to sound better IMO. I don't have any direct experience with tweeters in q-form kick panels or in the windshield posts on these trucks, but it might be worth looking into if you have really high expectations.
