decided to build the rear sub console

Well I have had my 10 inch sub under the seat of my crew cab 2003 FX4 for over 5 months now.. It is mounted in a cheap ebay slant truck box , I had to lift the seat and all.. I have had it facing up and facing down and it just sound like crap .. I cant seem to get the 0.93 cubic inches of air space that is required for my sub .. I went to a buch of sites figuring out dimensions and such .. I just want this thing to sound clean .. So I did some measuring today and I came up with building an 18 inch tall by 13 or 14 wide by 9 inch deep box ... to fit in between the rear seat , which will be lowered back down and the bac of the front console.. So here we go .. I am off to Home Depot for MDF , Liquid Nails , and Screws ... and a drill bit ... Dont want to split my wood..

A quick note before I go to the store ... Have you ever had an idea and you just knew it was going to work .. then you kept going back and looking at your idea and thought maybe it will , maybe it wont... So you go blow 30 bucks on MDF and liquid nails , work for 2 hours and then find out it will not work.. Well I have a feeling thats what I am fixing to do... I have a friend of mine ( alot younger than me ) took his rear seat out and cut all the supports off of it , built a sub box , then layed the rear seats back on top of the box ... Well as luck would have it , he decided he didn't like it ... So he bought new rear seats... Damn that will put a whole in your wallet ... Also I thought about getting the fox box .
On the other hand I am 43 years old and I really should be happy with my 6x8's that are in the doors.. or so my wife says..
With her saying that I wish I would have never bought the $800.00 Yamaha Surround System in my den.. I cant ever turn it up...

Funny thing about being 43 years old and hooking up bass in your truck is that the kids in the neighborhood look at you real funny... I just tell them I am hooking it up for my son , then they are like I wish my dad would have helped me... You got to love it...
OFF TO THE STORE NOW I AM PROCRASTINATING

Here it is and the glue is drying on the vynil right now.. It has been liquid nails inside and out , scres every 3 inches It is air tight .. tHE DIMENSIONS ARE 18 high x 13 wide x 9 1/4 inches deep.. all I have left to do is lower my back seat down like it used to be and put the sub in ..

I hope you are happy with it. It is always more rewarding to build it yourself.

Those are a step up from factory for sure. For the price I don't blame you at all. I hope you will be happy with them. Most people install a component set up front and something like what you are getting in the rears. I personally have a component set up front and polk audio DX7's in the rear.

http://www.polkaudio.com/caraudio/products/recent/dx7/

The front sound stage is amped and the rears run off the HU. I only run the rears when I have people in the back and sub off. The rear fill draws the soundstage to the back so much that it sounds unnatural. So when I'm by myself the sub is on, and only the front soundstage.

Well I removed the rear seats and the plastic panel along the back wall... I looked for the box to try to get my code for my auto door code lock but no luck there is no box back there anywhere .. Maybe 2003 fx4 must have put the box somewhere else.. Any how I have a ton of 3/4 inch MDF left over and I was thinking about mounting something behind the seats.. I was thinking maybe some 6x9 inche speakers and then get my amps off the floor and mount them on the back wall .. I do not have much room so when i put the seat back ( the back of the seat will surely touch the amps.. The speakers I am not sure weather it will help or not.. Then on the other hand I was thinking just put the plastic wall back and maybe invest in a better amp.. Right now my setup looks like this Pioneer DEH ( I cant remember ) 260 SE coustic amp bridged running a 10"sony explode sub , Old 6x8 sony in the front doors hooked to a fosgate amp and factory speakers in the rear doors hooked to the HU....Sad thing about my whole setup is that the rear door speakers hooked to the head unit sound better than everything else// So I am fixing to go ebay shopping tonight for some amps.. I will take pics tommorrow.

I got a great idea ~ here is what I am thinking .. Ok scoot the back seat up about 2 inches.. then build a box on the back wall demension somewhere around 7 inches deep on the bottom and 3 inches deep on the top , probably around 48 inches wide and about 20 inches tall .. volume will be well over 0.93 but I can make that work .. I will have to check the mounting depth on my sub but this could work.. Also the neat thing about my seats is I can scoot the back up and add just one bolt to the foward hole across the back of the seat brackets then for the front brackets just drill holes and bolt it down.. Then my sub is behind the seat ..

So I have been reading.. I figured out that by putting subs behind the set I have maybe 12 inches height. then there is a dumb crossmember... so the box at 12 inches high, buy I am thinking 48 inches long ( so I cant mount my amps on each side of the wall ) bottom depth has to be 8 inches no less and the top depth around 4and a 1/2 inches.. this will put me at 1 cubic feet total interior or a lil more.. Now the big question racing thru my head is do I build it to fit my sub or do I invest in a pioneer shallow sub .. It will save me about 1 inch..of depth.. You know I wish I had studied subs a little more before I went and bought the sony 10 inch sub... Now since it is Sunday I have to wait until well in the day to break my saw out again.. Dont want to wake up the neighbors..
