Speaker Recommendations
I have a '99 F-150 SC with factory radio/cassette/speakers and am in the hunt for upgrading the entire system. I will start with the speakers and move up to a CD Changer later on. I've read a number of threads listing a variety of speakers ( coax/components). Been a while since anyone has listed their preferences, so I thought I would ask for some input. Thanks!

I installed Clarion pro Audio 5x7 2-way plate component system. It has a round 5" mid-bass driver and a tweeter that is removable form the plate and you can flush mount it if desired. $99 bucks onsale from Crutchfield and you get the speaker wire harness adaptors free. The new speaks were not as loud as the stock speakers with the stock head unit - although they were brand new and not broken in. When I put in the new head unit, Clarion Pro 8575Z, they were much louder. I then hooked up a sub amp to a 10" sub in a box under the supercab seat. I spent around 800 bucks total. The sound is *so* much better.

I really enjoy my JL audio 5x7 coax. To really get nice sound from components you really need an amp. especialy if they have a external crossover. these speakers are very power in-efficient. That's why I went with the coax was because I was going to run them off of the deck's amp which is only 22x4rms 44x4max.
Just be sure to listen to lost of different speakers to find what pleases "YOUR" ear. that is the most important part.

Put in new rear speakers last night, and am installing my front components today.
Rears are JBL GTO 5x7 co ax ($99 at Crutchfield, but on sale for $69 at Soundhabit). Installation is SO easy on the 99+ Supercab. Used to think the stock speakers weren't so bad, but the JBLs are much better - my stock fronts now sound horrible compared to the JBL rears. Oh yeah, I also added some Dynamat over about half the rear doors.
I went with Infinity's bottom line components (Reference 610CS) for the front. They were on special for $130 at Crutch - and they threw in wiring adapters and mounting plates for free. Can't wait to get them in today!
Stock head unit for now, but will upgrade to a higher power unit soon, and then add an amp and subwoofer.

Patiently waiting for: Infinity Reference Component front speakers
Waiting for the weekedn: Flex-a-Lite electric fan
