Post Need Speaker Help

hello all,I need help with speaker selection.I have a 2000 f-150 sup cab that I removed the stock head unit and installed a clarion DRX6575z,to fill the gap I also installed a clarion EQS750 right above the head unit(looks awsome)the EQ needed an amp so I also installed a clarion APA4203.Now with this all in place I need speakers..this is the problem,I dont realy want to have a custom box built and have to run sub's under back seat.It actually sounds very good with factory speakers..but I also no it will sound even better with upgraded speakers.I was thinking of puting in some mid's and twet's in front and maybe a basser 2 or 3 way speaker in the rear doors to get full sound.is it possiable to achive this with out a sub...I dont listen to rap music,I prefer the good ol'days like Van Halen w/David lee Roth, pink floyd, ozzy, U2 and even sometimes garth brooks. So my question is can I get a clean full range sound with out adding a sub?please help..thanks alot

linedog,

Yes, I believe you can get good clean full range sound from your truck. You'll have to check me on this, but I believe your F-150 has 6x8's in each of the four speaker locations. If that is true, you could get very good sound with Pioneer speakers. Normally I'm biased toward Kenwoods, but for this size Pioneer seems to be better. You'll have to listen for yourself to be the judge, but based on the manufacturer's ratings, they are quite good. I'd recommend the TS-A6815 or the TS-A6895, which cost $100 and $140 a pair, respectively. Both play down to 30 Hz, which should satisfy your need for bass. For more info on them check out this link:

If you have any other questions, feel free to e-mail me.

Thumbs down

30HZ for a 6x8?
I don't think so.
At -20db or something MAYBE.
Point is most manufactures greatly exaggerate coax performance.
Go with components up front and a sub (even a small one) in back

Hey folks I got a set of four Clarion Pro Audio 5753s for 200.00 and was wondering if these would go well with my Sony head unit? Should I detach the tweeters? Any help on install would be appreciated or if I should give them back and get something else??
Thanks

54,

He is correct on 30Hz. I checked Crutchfield and that is what they have listed. While their prices are a little high their information is usually correct.

------------------
97 F-150 S/C 4x4 ORP XLT 4.6 K&N , Flowmaster w/dual tailpipes, Bosch+4 plugs,Ford 9mm wires,Superchip.Patriot fiberglass toneau cover, Westin chrome step bars. Rear seat lift 4".
Kenwood 4011 stereo, Rockford 150a1 amp, Profile electronic crossover, and 2 10" IDQ's.

FUTURE STEREO MODS:
Memphis components in front, Pioneer 3ways in rear, amp for the components, a cd changer,
and a RF 500a2 for the subs.

FUTURE PERFORMANCE MODS:
4.10 gears, Edlebrock shocks, supercharger, Airaid, power pulleys.

Crutchfield just copies the manufactures specs.
Why bother with subs if the Pioneers will get down to 30Hz?
They will infact play 30Hz note but not very loud, and will be so much softer than the rest of the music you couldn't hear it anyway.
Play a 30Hz test tone with any power through these or any other 6x8 and all you will hear is distortion.
The lowest Frequency a speaker can effectively play is limited by the resonant frequency of the speaker.
Most 6x8s have an Fs of 60 or higher, hence are not very good at deep bass notes.
Infact most "free air" speakers have a high Fs to control cone motion, as there is no box to do this.
Simply put, Pioneer doesn't specify a -db alue at 30Hz so the spec is worthless.

Wink

I would leave it alone.
I have not replaced my rear speakers, just the front.
The $$$ is MUCH better spent on a sub behind the seat.
The location of the rear speakers is such that you can't hear much anyway.
