Component Speaker Location

I suppose this is were I should post. Sorry for the duplicate posts!?

Can anyone help with better stereo imaging? I have read many of the posts and I recall Doc_Ford talking about flush mounting the tweeter in the little triangular piece of plastic where the leading edge of the window meets the door? I will be installing components, Infinty Kappa's and I only want to tear my truck apart one more time. Yeah Right!! I have removed these pieces and am not quite sure how they will mount. Has anyone placed speakers in any other locations? Any recomendations would be appreciated.

I have JL components. My tweeters are located in the triangular piece that you were speaking of but they are not flush mounted. I have them mounted on a 45 degree. If you try to flush mount you would have to cut into the plastic support that holds that unit on. My imaging is better then I had thought it would be, alot better. I am using 6.5 in the door in the stock location. In their situation I would suggest mounting them at a slight angle. To finish everything off I am building a custom bow to fit two 12W6s. Hope this gives you some ideas. Trust me I try to place my tweeters somewhere else but that is the best location. Looks and preformance!

Thanks for the info....

However, the surface mounts that I have are flat. (i.e. not on a 45) I was going to go with 5 1/4's in the door and make a bracket to hold both the tweeter and mid. If I do put the tweeter in the corner perhaps I should go with the 5x7 mid ????? Did you say you tweaked the mids at an angle. If so how much? Up? Any and all information would be greatly appreciated. I have had quite a project to get this truck "acoustically correct"!!

Come on........

I can't be the only one who is not happy with the speaker location / imaging!? Has anyone experimented with other locations, different angles etc.????

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

LuvtheC,
The imaging in my truck sucks. I am buying Infinity Kappa components for my front. They make a 5x7 mid called the 57.1cs. I will surface mount the tweeter on the sail panel "triangle". The tweeter supposedly can be swiveled at an angle to point toward the listener. That should really help imaging. I don't think that angling the mid will help imaging as much as angling the tweet.

FYI, I am also adding a Rockford Fosgate 400a4 to drive the front and rear speakers and an Audio Control EQX to compensate for the acoustic shortcomings of the truck's cab. With the existing 300W sub, my audio system should really kick.

Later,

ALA G8R,

I am glad I was not the only one not happy with the Ford setup.

Actually, I have the 50.1cs still in thier boxes. The tweeter can only be swiveled if you flush mount it. I am not sure if that is possible with the "sail panels"..... Is that what thier called?? I was considering making an outline of the existing 5X7 on 1" plywood and sanding it down to a wedge shape. Then mounting a 5 1/4 with the tweeter next to it. This way the speakers will not be firing at each other?? Just an idea. I have torn my truck apart too many times trying to get it sounding right.................

To LuvTheC

To get the angle that you want try this. Take your tweeters and attach them to a pvc pipe that is cut to the angle that You want, I suggest 45'. The pvc comes in many different sizes and you can mount the tweeters at the end of the pipe then it can be cut to a perfect fit. Hey and its paintable! Your overall problem can be solved with a processor. This will allow to image your speakers and give you in some cases eq functions. As far as 5x7's dont go there. I would also suggest that you try a co-axle speaker, two in one. That may help you and give you a very clean look. If you need more ideas write. If you want I could also send pictures of my setup.

Thanks Popeye,

Great timing. My truck is currently torn apart. Very good idea. How do you attach the pvc to the surface? Glue? Please send me photos @ THenterprise@home.com

I had the 5X7's installed the first time. I was not happy with the "two in one". I made the bracket and took some photos of the recent 5 1/4 component instal. Will be available on my web page when I update it.

Thanks again.....

Try some new kick panels. My Q-forms were about $150. They sound pretty good.
