shallow mount comparison
what would you guys recommend shallow mount wise? i had some clarion shallow mounts but they only make those in 10's and i am looking for some 12's to go in this box... http://caraudiofactory.com/20002003-...fire-p-54.html i was leaning more towards the RF P3 shallow mount, but i am not sure, the RE audio is more than likely out of my price range and so is the new jl shallow but i want to hear from someone with personal experience

O have the rockford fusgate p3 12in shallow mount sub (well 2 subs) but off my 600 watt fusion amp (amp not turned all the way up) they sound pretty bad azz in the cab. Outside the cab its a rattling mess but i'm going to get some deadening material and fix that. They get pretty loud on some songs. On my stereo i can turn my bass up to 8 but its usually down around 4 or 5 and it shakes the heck out of my rear view mirror. I love them I just wish i would have gotten maybe a 800 watt amp but hindsight is always 20/20.

A little late but i was on the lower budget shallow mount course a while back. These were all 10" though, i would imagine the same outcome for a 12" comparison.
I had the alpines, sonys, kenwoods, pioneers, and P3s specs all up. After hearing both the kenwoods and p3s side by side (the two i had narrowed it down to due to mounting depth[more of a concern since i wanted a stock rear seat], rms power, and sensitivity) i leaned towards the p3 shallows. In the tiny box i heard them in they seemed to overtake the kenwoods with a little less power. The p3s seem to be more forgiving on volume requirements too which is why i will eventually run those if i ever get around to building a custom box. The SI maggie would be nice, but i dont have the ears for sq and can bearly notice the difference in spl, so the price on it didnt sit with me. Keep my lack of audio-phile-ness in mind when making a decision. I am now considering the SI simply because i have some excess cash layin around and still havent moved passed the OEM audiophile sub.

I recently built a small box and installed a Pioneer 10" (TS-SW1041D), 0.35 ~ 0.7 Cubic Feet, 250 Watts RMS, but 87dB and I was really impressed with it for what it was. Not earth shattering and teeth chattering but the guy was more than pleased. They look a little cheap with the "cone" design, but I was very happy with it. If 3" is all you have for mounting depth, pioneer is worth a look. Maybe not equal to a punch (never heard one yet), but it was pretty cheap.
Me too *thumbsup*
