I keep blowing factory door speaker with my stock audiophile system. I would just like a nice set of speakers that wont blow to put in all my doors. I have searched this site looking for info. I've come up that most people like the alpine type r component in front doors and type s in rear. I am happy with my sound the way it is now so dont need a big upgrade just want more relability. Also wondering if i go with the alpines will i just be able to plug them in or will i have to do some rewiring? Thanx for any info.

 

if you can use a screw driver and know how to use wire strippers you are plenty capable of installing new speakers. I wouldn't suggest type R's for you if you are only running it off the stock head unit, but alpine makes pretty durable stuff. if i were you i would go with JL audio TR 6.5" co-axels. they are about 80 a piece and can handle all you can throw at it with the stock head unit. and for the backs i would do the same. If you buy from crutchfield.com they will give you all necessary hardware and some custom instructions for your vehicle. or you can buy from sonicelectronix.com and save tons and still goto crutch field and order a "master sheet" which tells you exactly how to install the speakers for your particular vehicle.

I put Infinity Kappas in all four doors and they sound great! And your factory HU won't blow them. And you can buy a harness online to plug into the factory wiring perfectly. Crutchfield has them I know.

 

FYI, 6.5's are not a direct replacement for these trucks. The direct replacement size is 5x7/6x8. They also make speaker harnesses which allow you to retain your factory speaker plug instead of either cutting it off or splicing into the speaker wire.

The head unit is the problem, not the speakers. When you crank the stock head unit up, it sends out a clipped and distorted signal which is ultimately what destroys speakers. If you really want a clean signal to your speakers, look into an aftermarket head unit or a sound processor.
