Up or Down?

Getting closer to installing some audio improvements and I'm working on preliminary planning for my sub box. I'm using a Rockford Fosgate P1S410 sub and am trying to decide whether to fire it up or down. One issue I'm trying to figure out is how much space to leave between the sub and floor if firing either way? Seems like firing up, I can leave a little less space since that's not much different from firing it into the back of the seat in a car. Thoughts?

Fire it down. With a sealed box volume Range of: 0.50 cu. ft. - 0.85 cu. ft. with a Xmax of 9.0mm that should not be an issue.
