4 8" woofers?

i just put my Kenwood excelon head unit, kenwood 4 channel amp, and alpine type R speakes in my truck, i ordered my seat lift brackets and the subs are going in next week.
that leaves me a little time to decide on subs.
im thinking 4 8" subs would give me the sound quality and be plenty loud for what i want. i listen to alot of different music so im looking for good balance between speed and volume. my theory here is that the 8's will be quick as hell but having 4 of them will give me enough boom for me to be satisfied.

has anyone else run a system using multiple 8's? and whatd you think of it?

or im still open to the idea of 2 10's if someone can sway me in either direction that would be helpful!

I love the idea. I had a pair of JL 8w3's in my Ranger that I absolutely loved. When I bought the F150 I knew I couldn't do 4 of them without a seat lift. In the end I went with the SuperCrewSounds box, a pair of JL10w3's, and no seat lift. While putting in the amps I tested them out with the 8w3's just laying on the seats. They did just a good a job as in my Ranger. Had I known how good they would do, I probably just would have kept them and not gone the 10w3 route ....

well, first off, small woofers are not "faster" or have a tighter response....that is entirely dependent on the box

that being said, im digging the idea. which subs are you looking at?

I run 4 8's. they have the low end and punch I want but need alot of power (1600-1800w) and still cant get much louder than low 130's but they sound good

I'd probably do 2 10's if I did it again

Because I have 2 10's thats what I would recommend. Whammy is right. Build a good box and your woofers will fall into place. Good woofers and a bad box can sound bad so keep everything quality! The 10's sound good with a variety of music and can get low for the lows. Not as low as 12's for the most part but it also depends on box design and what its tuned to. I'd like to see the 8's but 10's would be better IMO. Pics when your done!!!

its definatly going to be a solid and sealed box....when i said speed i guess i meant the tighter sound, like a double kick in the bass, i have yet to hear a 12 hit with the same punch that a smaller woofer has hit with, and since im going for clean sound over db i eliminated the 12's all together. i havent looked at any individual woofers yet but im sure you guys can hit me with some suggestions.
i already have a kenwood 1800watt KAC-9104D amp.
im thinking it will have enough power for my application.
i think the box is going to end up looking pretty cool. im tossing around the idea of front firing subs with nice screens over them, people dont sit back there anyway. also covering the visible section in diamond plate...the other option being down firing and still the diamond plate....or maybe i will just scrap the diamond plate all together and go with the classic carpeting.

i have about a week to be in the idea stage....im sure you guys can help me come up with something unique and functional.

down firing is limited both in depth and airspace I know my 4 Elemental designs 9kv.2's barely fit arc audio makes an 8 thats nearly identical and I think image dynamics does too

downfiring sounded more complex to me as well. but it seemed the most protected...upfiring seems easiest but i would worry about the subs hitting the seats, especially on those occasions when someone sits back there.
so maybe front firing is the best option? and it would look the coolest.

I'd also like to mention that the KAC-9104D is not an 1800w amp only 900w

I have mine downfiring. Like you said safest IMO. I do have people sit in back and besides not being able to with 10's I dont think I would want to risk people hitting them with their heals! But if you dont mind grills go for it. Also it's always a good idea to refer to RMS with anything subs, amp. Because even their RMS can be overrater or under. and Max is just to get you to buy their stuff!!!
