I've always used 3/4 mdf on my sub enclosures, but I have an opportunity to get a sub box already made and it is 5/8 mdf. Is there a noticeable sound difference between the two or would it be okay to go with the 5/8. I am not going to be entering any sound comps or anything like that, but I do like to listen to it loud. My system will consist of 2 10" Polk Momo's powered by a Kicker KX400 mono amp. Subs will be wired to a 2ohm load and receive 200watts each. The box is sealed by the way. Thanks for the help.

 

If you're running a low power setup like that and not an audiophile like some, I think you'll be fine. Supercrewsound uses 5/8 and everyone seems very happy with them.

 

5/8" should be fine given the power you plan to put to them.

 

So the bass would generally sound/feel the same with the setup that I have by going with 5/8 just as long as I don't have a very powerful system? What would be considered too much power to run with a 5/8 box? Thanks

 

Look at Atrend. They make a box that is 5/8" with a 3/4" baffle. You can also get it with black bed liner as a finish option.

 

The Atrend box is made of 3/5" MDF, with 3/4" speaker baffles. 3/5" is only .6", barely over half inch. Too thin for a speaker box.
