So now you have me worried.

I am now considering subs other than the JL W3. What is the better sounding sub, the shallow mount RF P3's or the JL W1's? Anybody?

I personally like the W1s better than the p3s.

But both begin to distort at higher volume and are easily localized. This isnt a huge amount of distortion, but just enough to notice it. This is because their T/S values are shifted and it throws the Qtc alignment all over the place. I'm sure nobody but me cares about that though. I prefer a subwoofer that disappears in the stage. I can't wait to replace my W1s. :o

So what do you want to replace your W1's with?

And the W1's are gonna be louder than the W0's right?

Oh and I am also considering Infinity Kappa 102.7's. I really do like the 1 Reference I have now, and with the Kappa's being more powerful and having two instead of one, I would hope that would make a big difference.

Oh my my my mSall...lol! Whether or not a sub begins to distort at higher volume has nothing to do with T/S values. The build of the sub, by design, will determine the T/S values and subsequently its ability to handle higher power levels at increased volumes.

Localization has just as much to do with the front stage and tuning as anything else, including choice of subwoofers

The w1 is garbage, plain and simple... Don't waste time with it at all
The p3 shallow for the right person in the right configuration may do just fine, but I'd still rather run a W3v3, absolutely

T/S's are typically taken at low signal, yet once the driver starts really moving the values get crappy. At higher volume, the subwoofers do shift the T/S values, which will create just enough distortion to become noticeable (Im not talking about unbearable distortion here, just that slight amount that most wont even notice, but enough to localize the subwoofer). Its not about the ability to handle power, but the ability to take that power and reproduce quality sound and BLEND. This DOES have to do with driver design, which is why I prefer drivers with XBL^2 motor structure since the T/S stays constant.

let me say this first, i know there are better subs, the premier shallows s1001 sound and handle very well, some people have disagreed with this before, this years model one of u speaker educated guys need to try one, my0.2cents is they deliver an excellent sound with some spl as well,i spent more time tuning yesterday i really have them pounding the seats right out of the cab, maybe my small town fancy amp helps with its tuning features, im no expert, their low end is strong, i dont care for high end bass,so i tune that down, i dont understand why these are discredited, is it the name, or past failures that they arent thought much of, the retailers here really recommend these for the setup in trucks. this statement seemed to fit here so, can anyone prove this wrong or back this
