Question Which JL Sub and Box???

I'm sure this is mentioned in someones thread already, but I can't find it...I listen to all kinds of music, but I want a woofer that can handle alot of hard hitting rap. I always put JL 10W3's in my vehicles but from reading on here, it seems some people say they won't fit and others say they will in an 04-08 SCREW. So will they fit (1 or 2), and if so what box should I get/make, and should it be downfire or up?

Thanks,
Ryan

Well JL makes their stealthboxes wth the 10w3v3, I haven't installed mine yet but they are going in my 08 Ext cab they just use 1 10" though. They have some for the supercrew too, just take their dimensions on their site and roll with it. I have a 05 reg cab that has a 12" Kicker solobaric downfiring box from supercrewsound.com and it's great, good prices too. Depending on what cab you have supercrewsound.com can do 3 10"s just give them the specs of the sub in cab model/yr.

Have a well designed PORTED enclosure built and you can use a whole variety of subs including W3's. I have a used a SupercrewSound-style box with 2 10W3's and they fit (barely) but for me, the small sealed enclosures are disappointing. Without starting a war, keep in mind there are a ton of other subs you can use that you will like better and can save you some $$$.

And that Stealthbox from JL with 1 10w3 is nice if you are willing to pay that kinda cash

I got the Supercrew sounds box with the extra 5/8" option and used the older 10w3v2 in there. This works for my 2006 SuperCrew quite nicely. Looking at the specs though, the 10w3v3 is taller and wont fit even with the extra 5/8" option. This is why some say they fit and others don't. I got my 10w3v2's brand new from SonixElectronics on the web.

I've been extremely happy with my JL 10w3v3 ported stealthbox. If you can afford one of those that's definitely what I would run. If you are wanting a JL sub -- but don't want the stealthbox -- you are going to be stuck with the 10w1v2, 10w3v2, or 10w0v2.

Whats the difference between
JL 10w3v3 and JL 10w3v2?

Will you notice a huge sound difference?

How do the supercrew boxes sound?

I had an offer I thought I couldn't pass up....so right now I have a 10" kicker cvr in a single ported probox, and I think it sound horrible. I have never had a system sound this bad. I almost think my stock woofer sounded better than this setup. What is the problem with what I have? Crappy Sub? Crappy Box? OR Both?

If the woofer is good, it needs 1.25-1.75 cu ft of airspace, but I cant find the specs on the box I have anywhere, so maybe the box has too little or too much airspace?

Box under the seat? On the seat? How big is the box?

I liked both my SCS boxes. I don't think SCS even makes ported boxes. I've never felt the need for a ported box. I think their boxes are great, their just basic mdf but they are custom made so you know they get the max size out of their boxes. I wouldn't get a CVR or at least not one. I'm a huge kicker fan and those are bargain subs really. I say both you have are not good. Don't get me wrong CVR's aren't bad but one probably isn't your best bet. The ported box serves a purpose I'm sure but never used them and never waned them. BTW what cab style do you have?

I just found out the box has 1.00 cu ft of airspace, which is not enough space for the sub, how much could that hurt the sound?

the box is under the driver side rear seat, fits in there perfectly.

well now that i know the box has 1 cu ft of air space, do any of you guys know of a good sub that will work with that amount of space, or do you guys think i should just stick with getting a jl audio w3v2 like i originally wanted to and having a custom box made or just buying one from supercrewsound?

Enough to make it sound bad I would think.

Not enough air space is crucial! You can easily damage a sub like that and yes it make it sound very bad. Think of it like this, if I choke you can you still perform well without the recommended amount of air your body needs? No you say. I'm about install a JL stealthbox with a W3v3 in it so I've not yet to hear those but I would really recommend a SCS box. Their cheap and you can add plenty of subs and those guys will even tell you what will fit and what won't. Stop wasting money on a quick fix and just do it right the first time.
