I would start by searching and reading in this forum. You can answer virtually all of your questions that way.

I upgraded my stock speakers (6x8) both to Pioneer speakers TS-D680R. Sounds way better than stock. I replaced all four but later took out the 2 on the back and put back OEM.
You should get a headunit and then some bass and read more on this forum too. Try searching google also.

i say atleast upgrade your headunit and speakers and if you want to you can upgrade to a sub if you dont have one crutchfield is a good place to get all the stuff you need and comes with specific fit and instruction and wiring harness to connect to your radio and speakers so really no cutting and splicing except for on the head unit but all in all ive used crutchfield on every piece of stereo equipment i own they ship fast and there great but upgrading is the best thing you can do to a audio system at first or you can go all out then you talkin bout some $$$$$ there

x2. Crutchfield at least offers you a legitimate warranty. Go to an authorized dealer...those cheapo websites are wrecking the industry...and stealing your money.

and LOL at all of you. My complete 3 way front stage cost about 150 bucks for drivers. With fiberglass and crossover materials, maybe $190 total.
Yes I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree that you should go to an authorized dealer, but that doesn't mean you have to pay through the ying-yang. For instance I can get JL through my local guy who is an authorized dealer a lot cheaper than I can crutchfield. And cheapo websites have a place, for example woofersetc is an authorized dealer for the likes of Image Dynamics, RE Audio and CDT. Onlinecarstereo is authorized for MBQuart, MA Audio and Soundstream etc, Powermaxelectronics for Sundown and Cadence etc. If you knew the markup for home/car audio and video you'd be appalled, I know I was...

Right now just HAT L1s and ID oem CX64s. Soon to be the CX64s, Dayton RS100s and some Dayton tweeters. I got the IDs and HATs used = super cheap.

The Daytons are designed for Home Audio, typical drivers you will find in $1000 home audio component systems. The drivers themselves are very inexpensive, and when properly installed can create excellent sound in a car. Inexpensive yet very high quality, without the ridiculous markup you get with car audio equipment. This runs true for other home audio companies like Seas, Peerless, Scanspeak etc.
