Speakers

I'm sure this has been gone over in this forum about a million times, but I thought you could give me a little insight.

I have a '04 supercab. The stock speakers on the passenger side threw in the towel on me so I am looking to replace all of the stock speakers. I want to replace them with middle of the road speakers and an 8" sub under my rear seat. I am going to keep the stock stereo.

Can you give me some suggestions on speakers (6x8)?
Sub?
Amp? Would you suggest a two or four channel?

Any other equipment I would need to install this configuration with the stock stereo. I need to have everything they may need to do the installation.
My plan is to purchase the components and have them installed by my local radio shop.

Thanks...

Not too sure of this but the stock head units aren't powerful enough to power aftermarket speakers, although they will be clearer. But in all honesty aftermarket head units aren't expensive and work it. Cause if you plan on amping the door speakers you loss sound quality when you use the converter to use the amp. All the door speakers are 6x8. The Pioneer TS-A6872Rs are the best speakers to buy, and you shouldn't pay more that $56 a pair. As for the sub, the other guys will be able to help you out better. But I do know that if you want to run a sub and want to use it you'll need an amp. And since you're running a small one don't go crazy with the amp size. If you're only running one sub all you need is a mono channel, but if you want to add later a 2 is good and 2 channel ones are normally cheaper.

Truthfully, if you're going to spend the time, the money and the effort do yourself the favor of getting a new head unit. It alone with power those Pioneers well enough you might not want the 8" sub.

Here's what I did with mine. Others will disagree, I'm sure. But it sounded good to me and pretty much that's all that matters.

MTX RFL404 amp under the rear passenger side seat.

Diamond Audio 373i 5x7, same as 6x8.

The sub is a whole other issue. I got a screaming deal on a JL Audio stealth box from a buddy for $150. They are outrageous new, like $600 or something. So go here and see if they have something that will fit your truck http://www.supercrewsound.com/

Another option is a Q-Logic box. Google that.

I ran all this off the stock hu. The MTX amp has a line output built in so you don't need a line output converter. You just tap into the speaker wire. Run the Diamonds off 2 of the amps channels and bridge the sub off the other 2 channels.

I've since upgraded to components and sold the Diamonds. It sounds even better but the Diamonds still sounded damn good. Still using the stock hu, too.

With all that said it's really going to depend on what brands your local mobile audio shop carries.

I'm not familiar with the supercab. Does it have rear speakers? If so I would just keep the stock in the rear. You'll have the drivers front you can move to the passenger rear. I have the stock speakers in the back of my supercrew. They run directly off the hu. Not amped and really don't need to be. They are just for fill.

Pioneer A's are the best..... AHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA NO!

Look into Hertz Dieci's, Polk dB571's or Alpine SPS-57C2

It does have rear speakers. The two pass side speakers are blown. I definately don't want to get rid of the stock stereo unit. I know this will limit me. I am just looking for a good clean sound with a little bump. Your saying that if I replace the door speakers with aftermarket that they won't work?

I meant best bang for you buck not absolute best. I know you can get them for cheaper too. I know anything Polk is good but never been a fan of Alpine. And to be honest I've never heard of Hertz Dieci, but I'm novice at car audio. I install home theaters and the sorts like.

It's not that the factory head unit is bad, that isn't the case. It's that it can't supply the power that is needed to truly enjoy the aftermarket speakers. Not enough power means no bump, not even a little. So, not only is it not powerful enough the quality of the sound output on the factory HU leaves much to be desired.

No not saying that at all. But if you're going to buy an amp for the sub you may as well get a 4 channel and run the fronts off the amp, also. They will sound MUCH better. A good little 50wx4 amp will do the trick.

So you put the new aftermarket speakers up front. Take the stock drivers side front and put it in the rear passenger side to replace the bad one. Run the new fronts off the amp and leave the rears on the stock hu.

Call your local shop and see what speakers and amps they carry. I know most install shops don't like installing stuff they don't sale. I mean, I'm sure they'll do it, but they won't warranty the equipment. If the equipment goes bad whose fault was it? The equipment or the install? See what I mean?

If you bought a sub specifically made for your truck, elsewhere (online) and then bought the speakers and amp from them and had them do the install, I bet they'd be fine with that. Give em a call and post back what brands they carry. Tell them what you're after. Those places usually have pretty helpful people and love talking car audio.

Check this Ebay seller out for subs. http://stores.shop.ebay.com/Rodneys-...__W0QQ_armrsZ1

I have the stock head unit and I replaced my front door speakers with the polk db571's. The speakers sound better than stock and you can find a set on ebay for usually around $60-70 including s&h.

They have serious problems with driver failure (normally the tweets). Its odd, but I can damn near pick out a Pioneer Spk in any install. The sound is ehh at best.

B&M = Brick and Mortar aka a Shop with a storefront.

Alright, I'll respect that. You've done this more than I, but my experience with that series has been great. I don't have them amped, just powered by HU. And since I am a sound guy I know when I should stop feeding them power. You think it fails cause ppl are ignorant/dumb or just cause of the product?
