How crazy would this be ???

Alright, you guys already know what the bottom of the door panel in an F150 looks like..... well maybe not exactly for a 08' S-cab (longer door).

But anyway, I've just really been beating my head against the wall, trying to figure out how I'm going to integrate a pair of 8" mid-bass drivers into a good position for stereo imaging ? Ideally, they would be best right below the stock midrange area > right where that stupid freaking map holding / garbage catcher is positioned "all the way down the length of the door". Hell, "if I didn't plan to add any speakers" that is still just an unatractive junk catcher IMPO.

So how crazy would it be to chop off that whole bottom portion of the door panel (*of my brand new truck), and rebuild / refinish it flat, with a custom 8" speaker pod at the front end ? I guess the answer might be > Great, if it were done in a proffessional way.... horrible, if it were done in a sloppy, unproffessional way :-(

Which sucks, as I don't have the experience to do that myself..... or the money to have it done right :-(

What to do ?

Fish

maybe try finiding some door panels at a junk yard and work on those and if they come out good sell yours and put the others on. i have kickpods but those only allow 6.5 speakers maybe you can design one for the 8" if you remove the tweeter and just have the 8 down there?(just a thought). i had some pics of some custom door panels on some f150s but cant seem to find them. check out sounddomain.com and check out the galleries look for our trucks and you should probably come up with some good ideas.
also this website http://www.fiberglassforums.com/ go to the audio part or just search f150. hope this helps some.

You wouldn't be crazy Fish. People do that ALL the time. Check out some of the build logs over at DIYMA, lots of those guys rebuild parts of the doors to fit bigger/more woofers in them.

Brypink2 fit 8" Rainbow drivers into his F150 doors, search his threads.

You might try kicks. I had originally planned on doing that. Matter of fact I have the forms made.
