8 inch

Anyone running 2 8 inch subs? I've been reading reviews at crutchfield for the polk momo 8 inch and the people say they hit hard and sound really good. Better then some 10 and 12 inch subs. Just wondering what you all think. I would like to save some room. has anyone ever heard a good set of 8's. I don't really want bone shaking bass just something to fill the low end that my alpine 6.5 can't do. I'm after a good boom and some shake. by the way there currently 2 for $110.00 not a bad deal.
Thanks

I think you will regret getting 8 inch subs unless you get like 4 of them.

I'd look into a nice pair of 10" SQ woofers. Image Dynamics IDQ v.2s are a great choice.

check out my gallary albums. The short answer is YES, you can get a good system sound with 8s. But you must be very selective to the sub you use. I get 157 Db with my 2 8s, thats hard enough for the average bass head!

Agreed. BS!

It took me a 4th order bandpass to get 162db... That box design was WAYY more than a 5db gain over sealed.

having 4 inefficient 8's in a sealed box with 1800 watts myself I know hes not even breaking 135 dB

but it this way. I have a friend that hit mid to high 150's but he also has a HUGE efficient ported box 4 15's and 4000 watts

2 8s sealed in a daily driver arn't going to do much over 130 dB

it just isnt going to happen

I think im gunna go with the 2 polk momo 8" subs and a alpine mrp m450 mono amp and a RF 8ga kit. Wire in parallel gives 200 RMS to each.@ 2 ohm Sound good to you?

If you say you want 2 8's and you want some bass and to shake things is still pretty vague. You gotta know what type of sound your doing after, since Alpine SPR-17s (I assume are your speakers) are not a huge sq type speaker are you going for a spl or sq type sound. ( Which is more important to you, loud bass, or clean bass). Of course there are subs that people claim are in the middle of that (SQL) but you need to try and identify what type of sound your going after.

Im pretty sure 2 DD-1508's in a properly ported and sized box could come very close to surpassing the 150 dbs but since I dont have them and have only heard them I wouldnt know for sure.

In the same sense why only go for 8's and not 10's or even 12's. If you just try to identify what sound your going for and what restrictions you have there are enough knowledgeable (spelling)people on here to help you out.

Hey i have the SPR-17C ( type-R) X 4. I just bought the Polk momo 8's, the M450 alpine amp, and a RF wire kit for 287.00 from cruchfield. Not a bad deal if ya ask me. I guess im just looking for bass that doesn't rattle my eyes. I like bass you can feel without getting sick. my buddy had 2 12" RF and 2 10" Kicker subs in his S-10 and i thought i was going to be deaf. I like the bump with some shake but not make my doors fall off i guess is what im tryin to say. Thanks again for your help this site is very helpful.
I will let you all know how they are when i get them hooked up next week.

2 8s will give you good bump, I don't know the fs of those drivers of hand but the lack of cone area and possibly high fs might give you poor low end extension.

I've had tons of sound systems through all of my previous vehicles and had always believed that bigger was better. This was true when I made my own boxes. But nowadays there is a great deal of engineering that goes into a manufactured sub enclosure. My local installer challenged me to pick up a Phase Linear subwoofer with integrated amp. It cost me $170.00 and he swore to me that I'd be happy - he said if I didn't like it after it was installed he would buy it back with no questions. I just finished installing this thing and let me tell you - IT POUNDS! The enclosure is only 3" thick and is exactly the same lenth as the rear drivers side seat, so you can still keep your jack. It fits under the rear seat and still has about 3" of clearance left! Plus it is tucked about 3-4" behind the front of the seat which makes it almost impossible to even notice that it's there. This box is driven by two 6" woofers and it sounds great with my factory head unit. These woofers have huge magnets and the enclosure is made out of MDF not plastic. The box is small but surprisingly heavy. The only draw back to having it with the factory stereo is that there is no trigger wire - so I wired the trigger to an accessory power supply. (Just means that the unit comes on when I turn the key)
If you are interested I can look up the exact model number for you - I am sure you can find these cheap.
Paul.

Thanks for the reply Paul,
I already bought the 8's but that sounds like a good deal if it sounds as good as you say it does.
