Door Speaker > 6.5"

Hey All,
I'm looking for anyone's input with expirence on placing a woofer larger than a 6.5" in a front door.

Specifically, does anyone have an 8" woofer?

Any input on larger door speakers is appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
-Tung

Ya, there are a few that have done this. It is possible just be ready to make the appropriate cuts/trim rings per your driver.

Yup, you will need to trim the sheet metal for the speaker opening. You will also need to cut out all that plastic where the stock speaker mounts, and will need a 3/4" thick baffle or larger (depending on mounting depth of the driver). I know Brypink2 had some 8" rainbows in there at some point.

Are you doing a 3-way active setup?

Dayton and Morel both make some really nice budget 8" drivers with slim mounting depth that many use in the doors. Check out partsexpress for good prices on those.

mSaLL150 & Low_e_Red,

Thanks for the prompt replies.

I probably won't end up with an active 3 way. However, I know with better low profile technology in woofers, I want to check it out.

Im weighing my options right now.

I'd love to drop the tweeters and mid in the trim piece next to the mirror. Then put an 8" in the lower door. Probably a 12" in the back.
But, Im not a glasser and I'm having a hard time finding someone I trust in my area. (Des Moines, IA)

I hope one of the people that has accomplished this will post.

Thanks again,
-Tung
