I'll make some suggestions as well

HU: Alpine CDA-9887

Comps: Alpine SPX-17PRO, Pioneer TS-C720PRS, Polk SR's, higher Rainbows

Comp Amp: Eclipse XA4000, Alpine PDX 4.150, Arc Audio KS300.4 or 300.2 or a JL Audio 450/4 (with the 9887, you could go active with 75x2 (tweets) +150x2 (midbass)

Subwoofer: Image Dynamics IDMAX 12 - either one or two, your preference

Sub Amp: Arc Audio KS1000.1, Alpine PDX 1000.1

Just a place for you to start. All of the above can be found at reasonable prices (even better used) and generally receive great reviews.

these days 2k really aint much for a good system....people dont realize that a good sound system could cost more than most their mods......i had a maxima before my truck and worked for frequency car audio where i was sponsered by boston acoustics and the system in my car was worth over 8 grand and let me tell you there are still better systems than that.....i say go with a cheap kenwood head unit like the kdc 138...that will be your biggest save...then some decent speakers would be some infinity kapas.....ive heard em all and i personally love these for the price......but i think where you will hit the jackpot is DIAMOND AUDIO....i had a 1000$ boston woofer in my car and replaced it for a couple of days with some 80$ D3 twelves from diamond and i LOVED them...they are very good performing for an amazing price...havent heard the speakers but i hear nothing but good things....there amps run the same as everything else and thats where the money is gonna go...amps arent cheap and you need two...one for the suba dn one for the speakers.....if i were you with that budget i would go all diamond if you oculd cuase its nice to stay within the brand...but those other things i said will also be good....if you got any specific quesitons or REALLY want to get into details jsut messsage me im here to help

focus less on product, and more on install and tuning. alot of systems I hear have bloated bass and shrill highs. sad thing is once you learn how to tune you can make $5 speakers sound like gems.

maybe not like gems but you are right.....subs with a CORRECT enclosure and amps tuned correctly can make a pair of q powers sound like....well....not q powers :P but it takes experience to get a correct tune on a system and to be honest most places dont know how to do a correct tune...but just search around and you should find someoen that would do it for ten bucks and a case of beer :P

Its horrible here, all they want are highs that still tick 400 yds away and subs that beat the kids out of their beds 8 houses down. Then mids WTF are those? And then wire everything like a bunch of democrats.

RETARDED.

I like the ones that just move their EQ sliders around to make cool patterns

My cousin had a Grand Am with the stock radio and it had a 10 or so band EQ with sliders and everytime I got in that car he had them in a different pattern just for the looks
