Well Low....

I might be asking you some questions soon...finally decided to give the 'glassing thing a try.

Bought this crap on Thursday but its been one hell of a weekend so I havent even thought of doing anything yet. Almost thought of playing with it today but today is a much needed day of recovery after this weekend.

Cheap Bondo brand Im sure...from *gulp* Walmart. I figure it is my first time though so I dont want to spend to much if I screw it up big time.

16 sq. ft of mat (probably more than I need Im sure) and 32 oz. of resin (probably not enough) I had no idea how much resin to get so I just got one can that came with a little tube of liquid hardener.

Probably cut out some MDF rings tomorrow (I found a router I didnt know I still had!) and lay some chit out if I have time.

Hey Cj,
I have been tossing around the idea of teaching myself how to glass. I want to try and sqeeze as much mounting depth out of these scabs as possible without a lift and glass might be the answer.

Let me know what you learn.

Later bro,

Ive been doing a lot of Googling for How-to's/tutorials and have been reading a lot. They've really helped me understand it, and it actually seems like it should go pretty easily. Im fairly confident (now I probably just went and cursed myself )

What I have planned is fairly small and easy Im thinking...should be a good first time 'glassing project.

I just hope I bought enough resin...and that I still have some fleece laying around.

If this goes good, I think I will try to do some glassing on a sub box too. I would like to rip the back panel off my reg. cab and try to make use off all the ribs/indents in the back wall of the cab.

Im excited to try it!

When I do a glass sub box it will def. be covered with carpet or something because of that. I dont have the patience to sit and sand and fill and sand and blah blah. Im fairly rough on stuff too, so a painted surface would just look like a$$ in a month besides.

I think my little angled pods for my mids will be covered by the stock speaker grille anyway, so I wont even bother to finish them with anything.

First thing first. Take that BONDO CRAP BACK!!! Its too oily and it just is more of a pain in the *** to deal with than necessary.

Just go to your local paint store and pick some up there. Its SOOO much nicer.

Look shoot me an email with what youre doin and Ill give ya my # for advice. If you dont already have it.

I do all the sanding by hand. I find it is a bit slower but better for more accurate work..

I knew I probably should have looked around a little bit more (and would catch crap from at least someone for buying Walmart chit), but I f'n HATE the city and I had already been there for too long...and I was already at Walmart so I said F it.
Is it really that bad of stuff? I probably would go get something else...except the closest Walmart is 70 miles from me, I havent the slightest idea where I would go to find other resin, and God knows how long it would be before I got around to getting any more.
Do you really think I should wait and try to get something else or just say F it and use this stuff?
Hell, If Im any good at it I will probably end up ripping these out within a few months and making something completley different out of glass anyway.

After I do a little more looking around and deciding I will shoot you an email with what Im thinkin...then you can let me know what your thinkin
I will probably call you a time or two (dont have your number either that I remember)

Damn straight. And I wouldnt have it any other way

I dont plan on sanding the finished product anyway since it will be covered by the factory speaker grilles probably.
Unless I need to sand for some reason (between layers or anything???)...

Too many hicks on this forum... I need another city slicker

Just nice to have a fully cleaned up piece. It feels better. Plus, you will have to sand between filler and the glass.

Funny, I always thought there were to many city people on here.

I know what your saying on a nice finished peice and I usually like to have my things like that...but as I said, its just a rough first time deal that will be covered up and probably be thrown away in 3 months for a completly different deal (like replacing the whole factory speaker grille). Hell I didnt even plan on using filler unless is a necessity
