Help with set up

5+ years ago I used to put new speakers, subs, amps, etc into all my vehicles. Since then I haven't and I am really kinda missing out on the sound quality. I really don't need anything with a LOT of bass, but rather good quality sound with some nice bass tones. EVen my buddies Bose factory system in his Trailblazer sounds good to me.

What would you guys reccommend for a setup? I currently have just a cheaper ($200-ish) dollar Pioneer cd player and that's it. Can I get a decent system for $500 - $700ish? I'd hate to just go to a car audio place and pay for something that I know I can do easily.

I don't know if new speakers and an amp pushing them would be enough or if I'd need to get a sub. Any help would be appreciated as to what speakers / amp / sub? / model #s / places to buy. Thanks guys, I appreciate your help

Can anybody out there just get me started at least? I know I used to order from Crutchfield and they have decent prices. Now what do y'all recommend as far as brand / model and do you recommend an amp pushing them? Subwoofer needed or no?

Again, I don't need to rattle my teeth, but I need something better than stock speakers that give me good sound quality (vocals and treble) with some bass.

Thanks

it all depends i guess and what vehicle your puttin it in, if you want some decent bass i suggest two 10 inch woofers but kinda hard to get some bass with a $500 budget, but what me and my cousin did not too long ago is we bought a quare 12 inch with a 500-600 watt amp and it sounds great along with all new speakers but the total was around $1000, but for around $500-700 you can get new all around apeakers with a seperate 4-channel amp and should do you good, but if you want better bass i suggest saving up for subwoofers cuz those cost more with the amp pending on size and the wiring fuse etc. cuz in the car we made the sub box ourself.

Well the set-up would be for my truck. I think I'll start with the speakers and an amp and see how I like that. I wanted to stay within a $500-700 budget, although money isn't really that much of a problem if I wanted to go "big".
Going big this isn't the idea though - I am hoping to get better sound and stay reasonable on the cost.

I'm looking at getting remote start and alarm soon as well, and seeing as how the mod prices are adding up I need to get some sort of realistic cap to my spending

When I joked (halfway) about going S/C'd to my better half, she threatened to leave What's wrong with a little boost

speakers are totally pwersonal preference, go to an audio shop or bestbuy or anything and get an idea of what you want. im looking at getting some cadence speakers for $100 fo ebay, some people here suggested them and for 100 bucks its worth a shot

speaker amp i suggest the alpine f300, its a newer model, does 50x4 or 150x2 and is 140 bucks from hookedontronics.com
i don't know what would be good in the line of inexpensive subs, but alpine and kicker have some pretty inexpensive amps that run 2 or 300 watts

good places to check are
hookedontronics.com
woofersetc.com
crutchfield.com
sonicelectronix.com (though i don't recommend this one, it has fairly low ratings, but some people on this forum have used it many times)
