Is this box/sub combo any good?

I have been looking to put a few subs in my truck for about a year now and this package caught my eye. Its the box with two Kicker 12" CVT subs

http://cgi.ebay.com/Ford-F150-SuperC...QQcmdZViewItem

Is there any advantage to a down firing box vs up firing?

Ohh and my truck is a 2005 f150 crew cab with an Avic D3 installed and Hertz Energy components in the front.

Any help would be GREAT!!

(also if this is any good what would be a good amp to pair the subs with my budget for an amp alone would be >$350/400)

im not sure how much those boxes run for, but for almost 400 bucks, yes you can do something better
downfire is generally better unless you want to be able to show off your subs

That box wont be high quality. Build your own or get one custom built.

If you are just looking for some boom, kickers should be fine. But they are quite sloppy, if you want sound quality look elsewhere...

Thanks for the help! :-)

For a budget of around $700 what would be a good amp/sub combo? I tend to lean more towards sound quality then volume/boom ? (assume the 700 is for just the subs and amp not the box)

I'd consider the Elemental Desigsn 11kv.2 or the Image Dynamics IDQ v.2 subwoofers. They both will fit under the seats, and are more sound quality oriented drivers. The ED are great because they only run about $90 with a 2 year warranty included.

and here is a good matching amp, assuming you want to stay with the same brand:

If you go this route, make sure to get your subwoofers with dual 4ohm VCs.

i built my own system for 800 dollars. im sure you could squeeze that into a 700 dollar dress.

i have two twelves in a custom box with a 800 watt pioneer amplifier and it only ended up being around 815 bucks. just work with what youve got and you will be thankful

It often comes down to personal choice based on the application. I have owned both and overall I liked the v.2s

My two cents will always be... spend more on the amp, or make sure your amp is more than your subs need.

Buying new subs can, and will, and should happen over time...

But if your amp is never overworked, it's an investment that can keep on giving for many, many years.

I have several amps that I bought from 1991 - 1993 and are still working.

Conversely, if you know how to select one properly, you can get a relatively inexpensive amp to pound just as well as an expensive one by not buying overly "high wattage" woofers.

I've had subs with an RMS rated anywhere from 150 to 900... and I still enjoy a clean hitting low RMS sub more than the monsters I owned.

I always suggest 2 8 Ohm subs, paired with an amp wired mono, preferably with a built in crossover set to around 80 Hz or lower... very hard to ruin a setup like that.

For instance... 350 watt amp with two 150 RMS subs wired parallel mono, yields an output of around double the amp's normal load (usually, if it's quality -around 500-700 watts), but at only 4 Ohms with two 8 Ohm subs... You could get a 2 Ohm load with a couple 4 Ohm subs, but that will only be louder for a shorter amount of time... Some amps tout a "1 Ohm stable" on the info sheet... but they will not last long running at full throttle all the time... sure they'll do it, but why risk meltdown? Go for clean, manageable bass. Lowest I would ever go for a sustained amount of time is a 2 Ohm load... but...

If you're in it for a long term setup, go with two 8 Ohm subs and wire it mono from the amp, and parallel to the subs.

I've had woofers (using one now in fact) last me 9 years using this policy... and I crank the crap out of them. I have been known to flip quarters on the roof.
