To Cut or Not to Cut?

First time poster thanks ahead of time fellas.

Real simple. I am installing new speakers in my 04 supercrew, removed the plastice speaker cover removed the factory speaker to my surprise there was a plug to teh speaker where there is usually a metal sliding piece. do i cut the wires in the door and put methe metal sliding piece or buy speakers that match?

I know real newb question. thanks for a speedy response.

When i put my alpines in running off the head unit i just cut the plug off the stock speakers and soldered the plug to the alpines, then they just clip right in like factory.

That is a pretty good idea. I never thought of that before. I went the lazy route and bought the adapters. They sell them at CC for about $10 a pair. You can always do it the other way and just strip back some wire behind the plug and tap in there. Or you can cut them off if you never plan on going back to stock. Either way, I would solder.

Good luck,

Thanks alot i have been so busy @ work that i have been driving around with the speaker out... :o

I have a solder iron that i haven't had a chance to use. guess this is good a time as any.

I kinda pre-maturely yanked the speaker wires out of the adapter exposing the metal prongs.. so i guess i have to go the solder directly to the speaker route.
