Using existing audiophile sub box with aftermarket sub...

I was curious if anyone has tried or if it is even possible to replace the factory sub with an aftermarket 8" sub, while using the orginal factory enclosure and amp. The factory sub tends to distort at mid to higher volume levels, thinking maybe the power is there to support a better sub while keeping all other components. Appreciate any input.

My suggestion would be go to a 10" low profile sub with an external amp... The sound difference will be amazing...

I know, I installed aftermarket subs/amps in all my previous vehicles. In my last f150 I had a PPI amp pushing a 10" JL in a stealth box. Man that sounded good. However with my new truck I told myself when I got it I was going to leave the audio alone, especially since I payed for the audiophile system. I was just curious if it was possible to do a sub swap and if so would it be much better.

Thanks for the input.
